Mine reached w/o a problem. I didn't use the short hose at all. If you take off the short hose completely this would make more sense. I took off the short hose, unhooked the long hose and put it where the short hose connected bypassing the TB. Like I said I'm gonna try to get pics to keep down confusion. I'm almost confusing myself trying to explain

I'm kinda curious of what the long term effect of this for us people who live in the 'snowy' climates. I have a buddy that said a few people did this with their Toyota Tacoma's with the Fly By Wire system and it caused premature wear of the TB. He didn't go into specifics, except to say that you should leave it on during the winter months. He didn't mention anything for people who live in 'warmer' climates. Anyone else have any input?

I also did this mod as well as the TB Grounding Mod, I didn't notice any difference with each, via the butt dyno or with my IAT Temps with my ScanGauge II. I did, however, notice that my MPG went up about 3-4mpg, according to the ScanGauge II. Ultimately, i'll have to wait for a few fill ups to confirm the effects of these mods.

Question, should I go ahead an somehow plug the coolant 'nipples' with something when doing this?

I was just wondering.. I didn't figure it would hurt anything unless I needed to re-do this for some odd reason and there was dirt in there.

I just used Electrical tape. Obviously, make sure it's dry before you do it, because the tape won't stick. I pretty sure you could maybe find some 3/8 'nipples' at an auto parts store.

Just got done doing it and i must say after the test drive that im pretty sure it adds around 8-10 whp.... GOTCHA!!

Took about 15 minutes due to the fact i dropped the freakin N.N. pliers in the engine bay when i took of the first hose. Lol, i even prepared myself for the coolant to come out, but right when it started to spew i freaked and yelped like a women.

Thanks for the clarification Biz and if any wants to chime in here... i didnt use clamps.. im pretty sure i dont need em, that sucker is in there (between the 2 hoses) damn tight.

No, the breather hose to the crank case is only for people who bought intakes which did not come with the necessary items to hook them up. The majority of used intake transactions do not include it and it's a somewhat frequent issue for people, especially those new to modding.[/b]
Sorry, I just found this thread. One quick question.

My MazdaSPEED intake didn't come with the blue plastic piece, like you said. If I do this intake hose/crank case mod, is it reversible if I want to put the stock airbox back in if I ever get rid of the car?

The blue piece is already on your crankcase hose at either end. I also saw some pieces like that at kragen so you might be able to pick them up if you lost yours. Following Biz's documentation you can go back any time you need.
