Can we make this a sticky? I plan on Doing this in the future, sticky would make it an easy find for me and anyone else. Not to mention the way it was written, should be easy to follow on my phone from under the car... Great job! :)

Hi all, just got my 2003 Mazda 6 2.3 Sport last week and looking to do this conversion but sourcing the parts in the UK is quite difficult. Main dealers are all saying they don't want to supply unless I give them my registration number and as the parts aren't for the 6, they get a bit awkward.

Anyway, I found a used one of these spin on filter adapters, it has part number
1L5G 6884 BA

It is meant for Ford engines but looks identical from what I can see to the Mazda one. Here is a picture

Would this fit my 6 Sport?

Great, thanks. I just found out the one in the picture has part number 1L5G 6884 BA F5, the one I have noticed been quoted uses a part number that ends with F2. Anyone know what the difference is and whether this will fit?

What are the pros and cons of this switch besides from it being easier to change the oil? I am new to the mazda 6 and I have not changed the oil personally yet. Plan on it due to money being tight. If anyone knows the pros and cons or a link to where they are that would be great thanks.

pros is that it is more DIY friendly, as there have been several issues with cartridge changes from owners and oil change shops.

cons...you have to pay ~$40 up front to be able to change your own oil?

If i buy the spin on plate from the mazda dealer, will i still be able to mount the aftermarket sandwich plate for gauges?

Any difference in the spin on plate sold at the mazda dealer, and the one that can be purchased from streetunit?

Last question - after you unbolt the paper housing, we MUST ensure that a new gasket is installed on the new spin on plate or the unit will leak? Is this correct?
I assume this gasket is included from Mazda?

Thanks!

Ask the guys at SU about their product for best info.

The Mazda parts used in this conversion include everything you need. As far as the sandwhich plate, the only concern would be how low the filter would sit after the install. I believe i was running a V6 Mustang filter which was a bit on the long side for a while, but there were shorter options that i can't remember off the top of my head that i'd recommend if you are adding a 1" plate into the mix.
