WOW! No idea the car could even feel like this! All the sudden, shifting around 3K RPMs isn't near as iffy as it were before. Sadly, the only way i was previously able to compeltely match the shifts in this car was to poke around and wait until the rpm's nears the drop of the next gear. Now, finding that right RPM is like clockwork...no more waiting on the engine for assistance!

Thanx to SuperCarTastes and TestDrive, i've now got a clutch that engages around 1 inch from the floor and a pedal height that decreased just enough to sit almost flush with the brake. No more rediculous clutch travel or jerky shifts here!

Whats everyone else's approximate height of engagement? 1 inch feels about perfect :)

That's about what I have. Basically, I did 2.5 turns for the stop bolt and adjusted the plunger so I've got about 2 to 3 mm of free play.

good deal. just making sure that 1 inch of movement until engagement wasn't too little. Pretty sure that i've had about the same in other cars before but since this is the first car i've modded a clutch on myself (especially under warranty), just wanted to make sure i'm about on-line with everyone else.

From what i understand, sounds just about right :)

If you're worried that it's not enough, you can do an easy test and that is find a flat road and come to a complete stop. Put car in 1st gear and with clutch pushed down all the way, let go of the brake and sure the car doesn't creep forward. Also, if it wasn't enough, then you'd probably hear grinding gears once in a while when shifting.

yeah wing, i've got at least 1 inch of movement from the firewall before i even start creeping at all. Pretty sure i'm safe, just erring to the side of caution for a change. thanx :)

Hey all, new 6 owner here...

Just when I was starting to think I sucked and should have bought an auto, I couldn't shift to save my life. Turns out I had about an inch of free play and a clutch pedal that was too high- I just adjusted it and I feel like a driver again. Thanks guys for the post, I'm happy I found a good resource.

Easiest and best way to test if there is any pressure on the master cylinder, is to try and move the push rod wiht your finger. If it is loose, then you are fine, if it feels tight, then it's either on the limit or too far. I suggest easing off a bit

Do I just reverse the steps to bring my engagement point further from the floor? lol, who wants to push the clutch all the way down to shift!! But I am a truck driver. Clutches on the floor are something you only do when you want to put it in gear while stopped.

This thread helped heaps. Thanks again.

Quick Tip: If you install an Exedy Sport Organic clutch you will most probably need to raise the engagement off the floor.

Did this. And let me tell you - OMG, what a difference! It's day and night, it's like back to my 90' Astina GT, buttery smooth! It's like driving a new car! omg, I'm so happy, if you couldn't tell yet lol

Thanks a bunch for this info. At 6'3" tall I was tortured by the stock setting. I moved my brake pedal forward as well and all be warned, the switch for your rear tail lights must be adjusted as well and it's a deadman plunger type. If you move your brake pedal forward I would suggest simply adding another plastic circle thingy on top of the one thats there to keep the plunger engaged. I started fucking around with bending the whole metal frame it's attached to and ended up breaking the part that holds the switch to the frame, grrrr. Stupid cheap plastic crap.
In the end tho, I feel soooo much more comfortable behind the wheel. Great post!

I have had my 6i since December, 2003. 7 years and 107,000 miles later I finally made the clutch pedal adjustment, and the difference is night/day. Very easy mod, and makes the car much easier to shift. Not sure why I waited so long, but this is the best *free* mod you can make on this car. And all it takes is a few minutes and a 12mm wrench.

How many of you guys have '04 models? I have had issues with this adjustment. It's not bad now but my pedal is still too far out. what I found is that the push rod does not sit on top of the "button" but rather goes through it. I have tried so many adjustment combinations I just gave up on it. Anyone have any suggestions?

How is the clutch holding up for you guys after the adjustment? Did it wear out any faster than expected?

Bringing an old thread back to life! I thought this thread was a lifesaver, as for years I have had an issue with the clutch. Not 100% sure it is the same complaint everyone else posting in this thread has, but it seems like it is related, and I thought this would fix it.
Weird clutch thing 14 second video(file is too big to attach, apparently)

I used the drawing/diagram from a previous post and it was pretty easy to find/adjust the stop bolt/nut on the front, but there isn't any plunger adjuster behind the pedal I can find. At least nowhere near where it is shown in the diagram.

Slope Font Parallel Rectangle Plot

I'm not 100% sure but adjusting the stop bolt/nut on the front did help a little. The difference in distance between where the pedal sits when it comes back up after a shift, and where I can pull it back to with my foot (the two positions the pedal can sit in in the video), seems to be shortened. I thought maybe the next and final stage of fixing this little annoyance was adjusting the plunger adjuster under/behind the pedal, but there's nothing there? It is maybe way up from there it is suggested to be in the diagram? And if so how would a human being get to it? I can't even get my head in there to see if there's something else up there?

Or am I barking up the wrong tree and maybe this won't help at all?

Your master cyl is dead if youre pulling the pedal up.
No it's not. The car has been driving perfectly fine like this for years.

And technically I'm not pulling the pedal up... The pedal clicks into two positions, maybe half - 3/4" of an inch apart (seems like less since I adjusted the stop boltb yesterday). But the pedal feels perfect and returns on it's own (to the first click) too.
