Ok, I was driving around last night and I got somewhat bored (gasp!) so I decided to check out cruising speeds against engine RPM. Here are the results:

2005 Mazda 6, 2.3 auto, cruise control engaged.

52 km/h (32 mph) @ 1500 rpm
79 km/h (49 mph) @ 2000 rpm
98 km/h (61 mph) @ 2500 rpm
117 km/h (72 mph) @ 3000 rpm
137 km/h (85 mph) @ 3500 rpm
155 km/h (96 mph) @ 4000 rpm
176 km/h (109 mph) @ 4500 rpm
192 km/h (119 mph) @ 5000 rpm

I wanted to go beyond but the cops were too close :D

My 2006 6i ATX:

65mph @ 2400 rpm
75mph @ 2750 rpm
This is a good topic.

I think I'm a little more than 2500 at 65 but I've never really looked at it in 5th gear.

I will try to remember to check it Monday and post my findings it possible.

I'm a 6i manual and I'm mostly in 3rd or 4th gear 90% of the time.
KEEP THEM REV's HIGH!!!! :drive:

Update
60mph at 2750rpm

2007 6i atx

100kph / 2250rpm
110kph / 2500rpm
120kph / 2750rpm
130kph / 3100rpm

those speeds and rpm values are when its just me driving with no cargo, AC off and windows up. once i break the 3000rpm mark my fuel consumption goes through the roof so i usually keep my 6 between 110kph and 120kph.
