I’ve got a 2005 6s with the 3.0, it recently died on me at a stop sign and would no longer start. Im not sure if it’s out of time or what, as it backblows air out of the intake when it turns over. We checked the crank sensor for continuity and the closer we got it to the metal surface the higher the reading got on the voltmeter tool. Battery is charged and fine, it turns over but doesn’t start. Any ideas?

It must have thrown a CEL? Were you able to check the code(s)?

CEL was on but I have a muffler leak causing an error on an O2 sensor, I haven’t gotten word from my hubby about the actual code but he said he cleaned the throttle body. Could it possibly be an issue with an airflow sensor? I know it idles rough, has always been a bit tougher when it gets cold out, but when it died it almost acted like I was out of gas even though the tank was full. The only other light I noticed was the red key dash light flashed.

The closer you put the sensor it will increase the signal, however this is not your issue. 'Could it possibly be an issue with an airflow sensor?'.. No..it backblows air out of the intake when it turns over.

Sounds like a stretched/jumped timing chain if I were to take a guess...

Can you hear the fuel pump at all?

A faulty fuel pump is not going to push air out of the intake manifold. Valve timing will, or bent valves etc.

The fact that it died while running and now has a valve closure issue makes me highly suspect of a mechanical issue.
Looking at the starter draw while cranking with an oscilloscope would likely reveal your problem.
I am going to respond in agreement with the previous and say plan on resetting the timing with a timing component replacement.
Before doing that, it may be worth the $150 diagnostic (plus towing) to get an in person assessment.
