I have been watching this forum for the last couple of years in my attempt to learn a little something about our cars. Now I seriously need some assistance regarding the following circumstance.

I have a 07 speed with 20k miles. I have never onced dropped the clutch in first and overall completely babied this car. Anyway, on the way home from work two days ago I attempted a shift from 2nd to 3rd while accelerating and when I pushed in the clutch I was unable to shift into 3rd. While the clutch was still in, I attempted putting it into 4th, 5th, 2nd and then 3rd again without success (trying any gear I could, while I was losing speed- the clutch pedal was planted to the floor the entire time). I finally pulled over and released the clutch only to find the clutch pedal was basically stuck to the floor. Long story short, the dealer said the clutch "broke apart" and is not covered under warranty. Is there any way that there was a mechanically failure elsehwhere within the car that caused the clutch to fail? It was a regular routine shift and I didn't miss a gear. Any help is very much appreciated. If you need more information please let me know. Thanks a lot.

You description doesn't sound like a worn out clutch disk, but rather a malfunctioning clutch mechanism that is not disengaging the clutch. This does not sound like normal wear and tear to me, and almost like something that should be covered under the warranty.

Agreed. "Broke apart" is not normal wear and tear. Sounds like mechanical failure to me, which should be covered if your warranty has not expired.

Thanks for the responses. If the clutch mechanism was faulty will this be obvious upon inspection? Is there anything in particular that I can look for in order to build my case for warranty replacement? Thanks again for the assistance.

a bad clutch from wear and tear would just slip. wear and tear is not covered. but at only 20k miles and it came apart. i say manuf defect. fight it.

a good dealer would help you out worst case and pay for parts and you pay for labor or something. but it should be covered under powertrain. worst case if they do nothing. take it somewhere else and buy and act cluth kit and have someone install it. itd be alot cheaper that way

Worn out synchromesh would be more likely to make one gear difficult to engage, not all of them. And I don't see how an internal transmission problem would cause the clutch pedal to stick to the floor...

The clutch isnt generally warranted, sometimes the springs or the housing does break. If the housing actually broke, be glad you werent at 7000rpm or you might have one less leg. That shit scares the crap outa me.

I've noticed lately it's becoming more and more difficult to shift into 1st and 2nd, but I can travel through the other gears just fine. Do you figure that's a synchro issue? What does that take to fix?
