I picked up some TB cleaner/lubricant from my local autoparts shop and figured I'd give the TB a quick spray. Figured it'd never been touched before by anyone.

Anyways... instructions on the spray can:

1. With engine off, remove boot at TB
2. Start engine
3. With engine running, spray cleaner into TB
4. Let engine run until it idles smoothly
5. Drive immediately

After performing step 1, I found that the engine wouldn't stay alive with the TB boot off. So, instead, I sprayed TB cleaner into the TB against a closed throttle plate and put the boot back on and started the car. Car started up an bit rough but settled down quickly and idled smoothly. Went for a quick drive right afterwards.

Has anyone attempted a TB clean? If so, how'd you do it?

I used a toothbrush on the TB and sprayed the cleaner and scrubbed away.I then used a clean shop rag and wiped up the excess fluid and the grime. It fired right up after that.

The instructions are bad for most modern cars actually. When you remove the 'boot', you're removing the MAF sensor from measuring the air flow into the engine. That might explain why your car wouldn't stay running. If you have the accordian tube removed You can push on the bottom of the plate and it will rotate open if you want to clean behind the plate. I'm not sure there is much benefit to doing this unless you have enough carbon/gunk to actually interfere with the closing of the plate. The plate will spring closed when you let go.

Here is an open TB plate... (Clean too ;))

I cleaned my MAF sensor today and decided to clean my throttle body too. Look what i found!

So gross. In my Integra I had a lever outside the TB that I could tap to open and close the butterfly thing, do we have one on the 6?

No we don't have one. You have to push on the plate
