Hey guys, sorry if this is a repeat topic but didn't find anything under the search... I just used a clay bar and wax on my '04 Titan and it turned out amazing!! I've always heard to leave new finishes alone (except for washing) for the first year, but after seeing (or feeling lol) the results on the Titan, I was wondering if I should clay bar my '10 6?

You can do anything to a new car that you can do to your Titan. The paint is baked on at the factory so there's no issue. Having said that....I'm not sure your car will really need to be clayed, unless it was subject to a lot of airborne pollution sitting on the dealer lot. It was transported to the dealership with protective sheeting on the hood, roof and trunk, so it shouldn't be bad. But it won't hurt anything to clay & wax if if you feel it needs it.

The no-wax rule only applies to cars that you have paint work done to. Fresh paint that's not baked on shouldn't be waxed until it's had time to cure.

I love clay bar, though at the end of VT winters it takes a looooooot of elbow grease with it to get all the crap off my car. But after waxing it, it looks like a whole new car.

I went ahead and used the clay and then a coat of Meguiares!! Now it's like a naked female...hard to keep my hands off of it ;) Here are a couple of pics, cell phone pics, but still pics, one inside, one outside.

Clay also removes metal shavings from rail cars. if your car was transported by rail car to the dealer it could very well have particles from this imbeded into the paint.

over time these particles can rust and make a real mess of things.

A year of driving, im certain you've built up enough dirt to clay bar. I cant wait for the temperature to pick up here to clay bar!

just got it new Jan 28 '11 with 35 miles on it (now 2700 lol) (mfg May '10) so most of the dirt I felt from the plastic bag was probably from sitting on the lot or in transit. But does it ever look good now!! Good thing is now that both vehicles are done it will be a year b4 I have to do it again :) unless of course the GF wants her new Sonata done! Thanks again for the replies!

This thread prompted me to clay bar (before waxing)

I'll attach a pic of my car freshly washed and then a pic of my car now after wash, clay, wax. You can really see the difference! :)

It's a 2006 and I used Mothers clay and wax.

Edit: That second pic is after 30 miles of driving and a whole day worth of pollen - It's crazy here I didn't used to have allergies but my eyes are on fire and you can see it all over cars. *sneezes*

If you keep up on maintaining your car's finish, you shouldn't have to clay bar frequently.
Down south I can wash and wax year round. Northerners aren't so lucky. You can 'feel'
if your car needs it. Did mine about a year ago, and it's still smooth as glass!

Clay bar is the bomb!
