Ok imma get straight to the point here. I replaced my center console media control. Finished pulling and replacing it. I plugged it in and went to start my car to see if it was working correctly before I put it back together and my problem now is that the new unit get power to it seeing as it lights up when I put my headlights on but I can not get it to work.

Large pic? I cant even tell whats going on there. But, why did you replace it? C'mon, give us some context/background.

Pic has zoom, try it out. Everything is in the description already if you read it.

@Rag3free the lights on those knobs are pretty dim - are you sure it's not functioning at all either? If that's the case, you may need to check the fuse panel by your left foot - I don't know which one controls the knob off-hand.

Hello Imma, welcome to the forum and thanks for getting to the point.
Just so I understand, you replaced the knob because it was not working and the new knob is not working?
If this is the case, then I would bet the knob was not the problem. Start tracing the system from the knob back.
Good luck.

More context and background i snapped the boot clips to the old media controller and pulled it out. A couple months ago I finally got around to taking care of it and ordered the new replacement and installed in said picture (ill add more picture to show later when I get back to my car)

I can check it after work, the lighting is faint when I turn it on. I wish I could of checked the fuses last night but I didnt have my meter (though i could of just put it under a light to see if the link is broken)on me. Same thing ill try to trace it back and see if I have some kind of frayed wire somewhere if the fuses is still good. If it helps in some way I also put in the old one to see if it made a difference but had the same same outcome.

Thanks for the help

If the lighting is faint then you're getting power, it's not a fuse thing and likely not a wire thing either. If it's getting power and still not working then you're left with either the infotainment not talking to it properly or the new unit you purchased is busted somehow.

If you're not getting enough power then it could be a frayed wire or bad connection but that seems fairly unlikely.
Is it possible that there is some kind of software update I need to do. Or is that just an insane thought to have?

No it didnt, man im not a n00b at this crap, thats the first thing i tried and when they switched forum software that disappeared. All it did was zoom the page, but not the image.

The fuses wont have anything to do with it, are you sure you got the right one? Does the old one work? It sounds like you only broke the housing and not the knob itself. There might be differences between models or years and if you got a used one it might not work. Plug your old one in and see if it still works, if it does, swapping the insides to the new housing is fairly easy (6 screws), just beware of the little black pins on the bottom of the knob.

No, these things are really simple in function (think hand held calculator type workings) with minimal components to mess up and no computing power. This also goes along with my comment on the Bulb thread, there is less dependecy on computing controllers and more focus on a central brain with extentions, like FBCM and RBCM. I dont know if the Commander Knob goes off of one of them, or the CMU and when i got mine replaced under warranty, i dont think Mazda had to do any programming and i dont think there is a diff tween models or years, but i dont know for sure.

Imma getting it checked out at a mazda dealership. Thanks for the help you can give
They wont be able to trouble shoot it, they will want to replace it and it costs almost $500.
I finished up awhile ago I had a service guy check it out. He checked the fuses and the wiring inside the console all is good. He told me at the end of trying to figure it all out to take off my display screen and check the connection to what I guess you said earlier was the cmu. He also took that older commander switch that I kept in the car today and plugged it into another customers car that was a 2015 mazda 6 like mine and it worked perfectly. So this weekend I'll be taking that apart to check all the connections and so on.
I doubt its the connections, they dont just go bad, i would reset the CMU first. Everything in the 3rd Gens is controlled by some controller instead of having the bits do their own computing. Good luck either way.
I had same issue. Probably you have connected your battery when centre console was unplugged. To fix it plug in your centre console and disconnect negative battery cable and wait 5min after that vonnect it back and everything should be working.
