Hello, I am very new to the forum and this is my first post. I have a 2004 Mazda 6 s V6. I wanted to install a carpc, and was reading on the forums here for the purpose of having a gps, media station, and a computer in your car that is awesome!. I have been looking through what other people write and I am pretty confused on what parts I should get. Well I want to set my budget at $1000, and I hope that is enough to include the screen, electronics, and the computer.

First, I wanted to know what kind of computer I should build. Do you suggest just buying a whole computer (because they are cheaper sometimes) or just building a really weak one (for media you dont need a powerhouse).

Second, what wires and components would i need. Particularly would I need a sound card for my carpc. I have a sub and amp already installed, and because of the bose sound system my car comes with, the amp and sub do not sound as good as they should. I would want to hook that up through the pc so I will have full control.

Third, what locations are the best, and what do people do. I see most people put the car in either under the passenger seat, or in the trunk. What are the advantages of both.

Forth, screen! I would like to have a screen that is able to move in and out automatic, in the area above the deck. I think in the new 6 that is where the gps screen is located. Are there units you can buy that are touch screen and work well. Any suggestions.

I know there is a lot of information on this fourm and I will begin my search looking for some. But if you could help me with these problems I will be grateful and it would at least point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Hi,

I can't really tell you much about the carputer itself, but I can tell you that most people use the Holy Grail for touch screen monitor. There is a thread on this forum about a group buy for this unit (linkie)

for the rest, I think www.mp3car.com will be a vey good forum as this focusses on carputers and cartertainment :)

grtz
