I am unable to open the trunk of my 2009 Hatchback, the remote control or the button near the brake light cause the actuator to move, as shown in the 2nd image below, but the trunk will not release. There is no switch/button in the glovebox, there is also no release lever inside the boot/trunk lid. Has anyone has a similar issue and how can I release it?

There should definitely be a manual release lever somewhere near the actuator. If you can hear the actuator working than it is possible the physical cable has lost it’s tension or snapped. This is very common on the early model cx-9s and I’ll actually be performing this repair within the next week or so.
