I have been told that the 6 is all made by Ford, including all parts and such. Can anyone confirm this? (though I remember reading the car mag that there are parts that r from Japan and some other places in the 6)
I'm currently driving a Ford Escort, it's only a 98 car but already showing signs of problems and broke down on me last week. I'm not trying to say Ford Cars are bad (i was thinking about waiting for the 2005 Mustang), but any reason why I should trust the 6????
I really love this car and am about to purchase one. But I really want to make sure what exactly I'm purchasing.. cos this would be a car I wanted to keep for awhile!

Thanks in advance!

ElenaJ: From what I've read, the 6cylinder engine uses a Ford block, but the heads, movable parts are all Mazda. The 4 cylinder engine is all Mazda. The engines are assembled in different places around the world. The 2 automatic transmissions are all Japanese. As for the rest, like almost all cars nowadays they are "global" products. The tires are French-designed, and a very large number of parts have US origin. I believe that Mazdas assembled here have a majority US content.

Someone else will correct me if I got some of this wrong.

Its actually made in Flat Rock MI at the AAI plant owned 50% by Mazda and 50% by Ford. As with any Japaneese name plate assembled here in the US, a great many of the parts are soured from the US. This is how it works with Honda and Toyota and on down the line these days.

Even if it is made by ford, there have been some pretty substantial advances in quality in ford vehicles over the past few years. The new focus is supposed to be very reliable, as is the F150. And I believe Consumer Reports gave the 6 one of its highest ratings in the reliability catagory.
