Pulled off the 2008 cylinder head from the 2.3. Removed the cam gears and there were no friction washers on either side of the gear?
Is it normal NOT to have friction washers on the 2008 cam gears? The OEM Mazda part states the friction washers are for the 2006-2007?
THere is NO indications that anyone was ever inside that motor besides me.

Seems like the washers should be there as there are no pins holding the gear insync with the cam?

I want to go ahead and order the friction washers for the cam gears, I would need (2) washers (1) for each cam gear and they go between the face of the cam and the back face of the gears correct?

I contacted dealer, and found a pdf exploded diagram, they came with the washers in the not sure why they were not there?
Better to have them in place, then not, but was worried it may affect the VVT, but the washers are paper thin so I will add them as an extra measure. Still weird that they are not there and nobody was in the motor before me. Thanks!
