Yesterday, I watched a video on YouTube(the channel name is FordTechMakuloco) that talked about a common problem on 3.0L Duratec engines that mostly pertained to the 2001-2007 model years. The video featured an early 2000s Ford Escape with that engine and I know the only differences with those engines and the 1 in our cars are the heads. Anyway, they were saying that the cam bearing bolts have a tendency to come loose or break. And when that happens, it causes a misfire on that cyl as well as knocking noises and cracks in the valve cover from valve lifter being ejected into it. Have any of you ever heard or experienced something like this? Is this a possible problem with Duratec engines in the 6?

Had a cylinder 5 misfire. Wasn't the spark plugs, wasn't dirty injectors, wasn't the coil pack, so I too a day to check out the bolts and magically. They were loose. I'm headed over to Mazda or Ford (its a ford engine) in the morning to get the replacement bolts. I'll keep you updated.

Good luck. I hope it fixes the problem. Great idea getting replacements Instead of just trying to retorque what's in there now.
