I hate norfolk,va. Its drainage is sub-par at best. Anyway I was driving on the curb trying to avoid a deepish puddle and didnt see a 6ft long acess dip in the curb which was covered with water. My car wen't kerplunk in the water and the engine stopped outright. Being very very pissed at this my friends and I pushed the car into a parking lot. I tried starting it but only got a semi-thumping sound from inside the engine and alittle turn-over. I kept at it and was able to get the rpm to 3k then it would stall back out, then 5k and stall back out. Eventualy it started up. CEL was on. and it was spewing white smoke out of the exhaust which went away after a couple of minutes, which i think was the water that was residing in my engine. Now I am super paranoid about my engine and my car. Electronics work fine, the CEL i tried to check but autozone couldn't read it but cleared the CEL accidentily. The CEL came back after about 20 mile and me trying to listen to my engine at higher rpms. Anyone able to tell me what I have done to my poor car? It seems to be running fine but I can't get the CEL checked until tommorow I think. And I listen to the engine and I think I hear a knocking sound under the engines normal *click-click-click-click* sound.

Plz help

You may have hydrolocked it by filling the cylinders with water, bending a connecting rod. If so, the engine is toast and needs a new long block. Your insurance may cover it, but you can try a warranty claim if it is a MS unit.

That sucks. Time to head to the dealer. I hope they don't try and blame it on your mods. Can you change out the CAI for stock?

Yeah, that does suck. However, that's the risk you run going modded. Unfortunately, it was due to his CAI so chances are they may not cover it even if it is a Mazdaspeed CAI. Good luck dude.

+ whatever.

Indeed, try to find the stock intake. While they may cover it, you don't want to play warrenty insurance. It's a pricey and often unfortunate game.

I've been looking around these forums for a while and doing some research. I thought that if you bought Mazdaspeed items, that your warrent claims are still covered?

Thanks,
Crowley

The item itself is waranteed, but if damage to other parts of your car can be traced to the modification, it may not be covered. I think what you are hearing in the posts above is that Mazda will cover any damage to the CAI, but not to the engine. One issue with the CAI's is that the air intake is more prone to water ingeston. If you get more water in the cylinder than the engine can burn off as water vapor, you get the hydrolock situation and possible bent rods. With a CAI, you have to be very careful any time there is standing water in the road.
