Hey everyone,

Its been a while since Ive been on, and I apologize! But I have a question... Noob, Maybe...

I was discussing changing my rotors and pads tomorrow, which I have done on other cars plenty of times but never my 6, when a friend of mine stopped me and told me that I may need something called a "Caliper twist tool". He explained to me that with the rear calipers, I may not be able to use just a regular C clamp to open them up. And this tool is a "dealer tool".

Can someone tell me whether or not I actually need this thing? Or will I be ok to continue with just my C clamps?

Thanks guys,
Darren

i justed used the ghetto method of using needlenose and turning with them. since the block is so cheap it's worth getting, but not the end of the world if you've ever watched mcgyver.

Well I'd love to give an update, but most of the bolts on the rear brakes are so bloody seized up that i gave up! I'm going to bring it to a shop tomorrow and get them to change the pads and rotors for me! But I did pick up the tool at a local parts store for 14.99 Canadian, just incase anyone is interested.

i think i'll pick up that kit from Harbor Freight, thanks daztd. though it's not needed for our cars, i've had to go rent that kit several times for work and if it's that cheap i should just go pick it up!

i worked on a new MKX the other day and even with the kit above it took a good 10+ min to retract due to the electronic ebrake crap. But it took me 20min to realize i couldn't do it without the kit.

Check this out....I got that kit for only $9.99!! There was some type of coupon or special over the summer that was going on and I bought it. I love that store! It's 2 mins away from my work in Aurora, IL. I haven't used the kit yet, but it looks like it will do the job.
