boring engine

I own a 350z, and i was looking on the forums at boring out the engine. they are doing kits for it from 3.5 liters, to go to 3.8 and 4.2 liters! pretty crazy. what kind of power could be made if we bored out our engine to say 3.2 or 3.5 liters? is it possible for us? it'd be a great source of NA power.

the 6 doesnt really like mods. soooo it probably wouldnt work. or it would take lots of cash to make it work. Not completely sure but just my opinion.
From what I understand the 3.0L Duratec was bored from the old 2.5L Duratec so they're isisnt enough room to bore anymore. It would be cheaper to buy the new 3.5L block.
I *think*, think being the operative word here, that the 3.0L is already bored out to its maximum from a 2.5L. The new 3.5L from Ford will have the ability to be bored out to a 3.8L I believe.

Dammit, I was seconds too late, but ah-ha! I've got sources to back up my claim!!!

Yep, I'm a loser...
And the 350z doesn't have the CAN protocol like the m6 has, so tuning is easier

What is the CAN Protocol?
Whats going on with the turbo kit that was being made for your car?
SO what you guys are saying is that my 06 v6 is all tapped out? or am i just a tart and you guys are talking about a diffrent engine?
yeah, i thought you had a turbo already, just waiting to hook things up? if you aren't detonation, it's usually easier to up boost rather than get more from a bore. unless you are looking for more TQ or something, but in a FWD platform it's kinda silly.

Controller Area Network. It is the updated version of OBD-II that mazda uses. It will be standard in the next few years industry wide, but until then, a lot of companies aren't dealing with it.

Right now, other than basic bolt-ons, yes. There seems to be a few turbo kits in the works. We'll see where that goes in the next few months.
Yea the 3.0 is all bored out.

and the CAN is pretty annoying right now but it will be helpful in the future. most hand held scanners don't work with it yet.
crazy question and quite a bump but how do you convert a car from running a 3.5L to a 3.8L? could we do that... anyone know anyone who can do this??
Chitown how much does it cost to do this too?
If im not mistaken you would just bore out the cylinders and then Just insert larger pistons to accommodate... i could be wrong tho lol.
if that is infact a correct statement, if you have all of the right equipment how much would larger pistons cost?
EDIT: I did a 10 minute quick search on the internet and new forged pistons for a v6 engine would be anywhere from $150 to $350 dollars.. im not a pro on this but if we could get our cars to run at 3.5L's couldnt we just use pistons from the new duratec engine coming out? Nissan's 3.5L pistons go for around $200 online. The only thing im worried about... MASS issues with voiding warranty and possible engine issues.
yea i did more research on this engine, and boring it would weaken it. its bored out as it is. the Z engine is much different, and can be bored out substantially. my Z engine was bored out slightly and its a pretty expensive process, but with forged internals going in anyway, i figured why not. the pistons i purchased were slightly bigger than stock
couldnt say we didnt ask or try... :-/ fricken boring engine...

Are you talking about a stroker kit?
yea sorry, stroker kit. AEBS offers the biggest one for the Z right now, to put it to 4.2 or 4.3 liters. one of those, i forgot. the pricetag is around the 8-9 thousand dollar area. darton also offers to make it 3.8L as do other companies.
Stroker kit on the z will easily get you 100 more HP and thats not including cam upgrades and new valve train.
here's a link for the Z g35turbo.com (I think this one is AEBS)

Couldn't we gain more power with a CAM upgrade on our 6?
