Okay, I just got my car 4 days ago and I was leaving a restaurant. Before leaving you have to get on the highway (my car was in "D" btw). Anyway, I needed to get up to speed fast so I kinda step on it and next thing I know I hear a loud pop and the transmission went into "3" (fail safe mode). I rolled to the u-turn part of the highway, then my car kinda just sat there... Every time I rev the car it would change gears but it was like the car was in "N" and I got my mom and bf to get me a push to the other side. Thankfully a Mazda dealership was right across from the place we were eating at.

But what im trying to ask is what happened to the car? There wasnt any leaks and I tried putting it in park and I heard a grinding noise like when you try to put a car in park and its still moving. So the tranny was still spinning and I lose my parking gear. Do any of you guys know what happened? I don't have a tranny cooler. I've only had the car for 4 days, it had 95,000 and it's an 04 hb v6. I didn't have any engine check lights or A/T light or tcs light come on either. I searched the forum all night and still didnt see an answer

typically when that stuff happens it means the clutch packs/discs are gone or the trans fluid is an issue. i've seen something similar happen when the fluid is overheated, but doesn't sound like that was the case.

it's got some miles on it, and not sure how the previous owner abused it. outside of taking it to the dealer or a mechanic i really don't have a solution....definitely not normal.
