Do you have the V6 or I4?

I have the 3.0 V6
i got my CP-E MAFci for the V6 for $400 used. Maybe you can find a used one here in the Buy/Sell forum. Works great, definitely worth the money. Once I got the wiring diagram, it was very straightforward. Look into it; I know a lot of the members here agree that the CP-E MAFci system (CAI intake system) is one of, if not the best choice for an intake.

ok thanks for the idea.... I dont know if i want to be buying a used intake though, what does everyone else think? is new or used the way to go?
AEM, Mazdaspeed, or Injen.

AEM is the cheapest of the three at $209 from RPM.

Injen has the most power gains of the three. RPM sells it for $219.

Mazdaspeed is more expensive than the other two and will be the same as AEM as far as power. The M'Speed CAI sells for $260 from onlinemazdaparts.com. It also won't affect your warranty and the dealer won't view it as an aftermarket part.

There are other intakes that you can consider. K&N has good quality but has the least power gain of the other CAI's. Bomz (ebay) intakes are said to be identical to Injen but I'm not sure about the quality of this intake as it is very cheap. Normally under $100.
If you dont wanna spend 530 for the CP-E(Which is HIGHLY rec.) Then Id go with the Injen as later down the road you can always buy the mafci fix for it.
i would try and find a used CP-e CAI Intake. I bought mine for 367 on here, going to install it this thursday maybe. But i think itll be worth the money, since its still in good shape and everyone says its the best intake to get. LOL.
What's the gain in hp in the i and s models between the different brands of CAIs? Also, how does it compare with the gain (something like 4hp dyno) by just gutting the airbox?
the cpe gains about 22-24hp on the v6, the injen about 14-17 and with the injen fix it'll get more like 18-20.
Yea dude, get Injen, then buy the fix later on. Or Mazdspeed if you want warranty coverage still.

I'm buying Injen soon then getting the fix later on. I know CP-E is best but I'd like to go all Injen as I'll be getting the Injen exhaust as well later.
Happy AEM owner right here with no CEL problems.
I haven't had any CEL problems with my Mazdaspeed CAI either.

I did some research and it seem that the few CEL problems with the AEM/MSpeed CAI were on models before 05. Isn't there a difference in the ECU or wasn't there a reflash available in 05 for the ECU? Just wondering if anything was change in regards to the stock a/f ratios between the 2003-04 year models vs the 2005+ models.

happy AEM owner here also, with no CEL problem... but getting Cp-e this spring... if my budget allows me

by the way i have a 2004 Canadian, i believe it is like the 03 US
be sure to post a comparison between the two.
Ive had both the AEM and the CP-E and I have to say the CP-E is SO much better. Can really feel the power difference.
Trouble1986, i notice in your signature that you ran a 15.1. Was that run with your current mods? Was the track conditions bad? Just curious since I have seen stock times similar to that .

That was when I just had my magnaflow. Would have been in the 14s. But I just can't drive. Had a 2.5-2.6 60ft time, and didnt have the stickiest of tires.

hey, do these posts go for the 2.3 too, im in the market and im looking a good intake too, but im in the 300 buck range, plus with the intake, it doesn't void the entire warrenty, i was just told it would void the warrenty on the intake

??... The intake does come with its own warranty, soo it can't be voided. And as far as it not voiding the warranty on the car, this is not true. If there's a problem with the engine and you bring your car to the dealership with an intake on, they are not going to honor the warranty no matter what. They are going to say the intake caused the problem and void the warranty.
