i think someone on 6crew said they had the documentation and all the SST tools to do it, it was a member who was unhappy with the BSD install and was going back.

my question is...

Is the vibration really that bad with the BS gone? or were they just very picky about it? I can't imagine the vibration would be much worst that a small block V8 with a moderate cam... sound about right?

I honestly think it depends if you've done mounts or not. For me I removed my BS and have all 88 duro mounts and the shit is head popping on highway speeds (3100+ RPM).

Back for the OP. What you need to do is get the engine to TDC using the SST and then there's a blind plug in the block that your use to get the balance shaft to the correct position when the engine is at TDC.

Don't mark my words exactly as I don't have the manual in front of me, but when the engine is at TDC there's 2 dots on the counter mass shaft end that both should be point downwards.

STILL OFF TOPIC....

So, head popping is a bad thing I take is? I do almost 90% highway, so that's an important factor. Maybe I should just forget about it, I can't imagine the BS has that much resistance once it's up to speed, I sit right at 3000-3200 RPM on the highway for 2hrs a day (unless I get stuck in traffic...)

I drive ~50 mins each way (to and from work) on the hwy and I can definitely tell you it's VERY annoying and gives headaches. However, if you still have all OEM mounts I'm not sure how bad it is, but I have 88 duro engine mounts (all 3) and the vibration is definitely strong.

I still have stock mounts, for now but plan on doing SU or AWR in the future. I may hold off on the BSD all together....

Thanks for the info, appreciate it

SORRY to the OP... hope you got your answer as well

Hi i removed my balance shaft in the sump whilst repairing the crank does any one know how to time it back up again.thanks

Did you save the shims at each mount bolt? They are used to set the backlash on the drive/crank gear. If you have them still in the original location, then the install is quite easy. Just set the crank to TDC and install the BS making sure that the "dot" on the end of each shaft is pointing directly perpendicular to the crankcase. Install bolts and torque.

For all those complaining about *Bad* vibration resulting from this BS removal, I say you have other problems, not the BS. If the engine mounts are in a bind, more of the engine vibrations will be transmitted to the chassis. BTW, knowing the OEM reason for the BS and subsequent removal must be considered as well.

i drive 2-6 hours to/from the track with the bsd, semi-solid mounts and no interior and i'm fine....but i do think that's me.

i can't imagine it every being annoying other than if you have an atx in gear at a stop with the AC on AND aftermarket mounts. i never felt/heard/sensed any vibrations in my car at anything other than idle. rattles can be addressed and i don't attribute that to an issue of the BSD as all rattles can be solved.

I had the complete opposite experience. At idle my car barely vibrates and it was shockingly quiet. However, anything at or above 3000 RPM was loud as hell, so loud that I had to wear ear plugs to tune my car in that range.

Hey guys, lets move stuff not related to the OP's question over to my BSD post (SORRY i opened the can of worms), I feel bad to the OP, hopefully he got his answer on getting the BS back in place.

Post here. I'd be interesting to hear about more people's experience with the BSD, I'm still on the fence

If you have a noise like you describe, it isn't the VVT. It sounds like the timing chain may be excessively loose, or more likely that you didn't get the cam timing correct. If you actually heard the valves hitting the pistons the engine wouldn't run very long. You're likely hearing the timing chain hitting the cam cover or you left out a few cam followers....

Can you post up a video or link with the sound?
