My speed6 stock radio gets poor reception.

If you hold the power button down and the preset button 2, you can figure out the signal strength. I did this and discovered that i was getting very low signal strength on powerful local radio stations, that I can hear fine when in other vehicles.

I told the dealer this when i brought it in, and he tested the radios of mine and another speed6 on the lot, side by side and told me that the other speed6 had even worse reception. Anyone know how to fix this problem, or what might be wrong. Dealer seems disinterested in looking into the problem further. Could it be that the the radio is more set up for satellite, an option i didnt get?

Could a shark fin possible fix the problem?

My reception is great. With an antenna the size of the one on the Speed I should be able to get stations in Japan!

Is that antenna even safe to put through a car wash?

My reception is good too

I unscrew the antenna before going in a car wash. I don't think it would survive. Anyway, it takes a few seconds to remove it. Now I just worry some little punk will steal it when i go out downtown.

there's crime in Canada?

my reception isn't very good in the Speed6, but it was worse in my old '04 M6s. i made the leap to XM over 4 years ago. it's well worth the monthly expense.

My reception was pretty good (till I took the antenna off because I was sick of looking at it) but now I only use sirius and hardly ever listen to the regular radio stations.

If you're getting poor reception try unscrewing the antenna and checking the reception then...if it does not get any worse then you have a faulty antenna or something is wrong.

Homicide rate in Canada is around 1.8 per 100 000 vs US at 6.62 per 100 000 people.
I couldn't find statistics on removable rear roof antenna, however. So when I go out downtown, if I don't forget I'll remove the antenna and keep it in the trunk. Nothing to lose sleep over though.

definitely take the antenna off when u go through a car wash, but then again i recommend hand washing it. thanks for the advice about trying the radio with the antenna off. that makes a lot of sense.

i'm from Detroit. the culture shock cannot be greater than the 1 mile that seperates Detroit, MI from Windsor, ON. not to mention that prostitution & public nudity are legal in CAN.

A little off topic, but prostitution ain't legal in Canada... naked ladies in strip clubs. Hell yeah. Depending on where you are all you can grab too :)

Montreal is actually pretty bad for car crimes. I think it leads the way in Canada.

Prostitution, unfortunately, is not legal.

Pot was well on it's way to becoming legal (cops pretty much look the other way in a lot of Canada) until we got Bush Jr. elected up here...

Who goes to a car wash that has the old style cloth "scratch my car up" fingers that run over your car.

Laser wash boys. Touchless.

Yeah, but make sure you go to one without the guide bars at the front left. I went to one and had a line of cars behind me so I couldn't opt out and the damn thing put a scuff on the drivers side front wheel. AH!

Back on topic..... no a sharkfin antenna will NOT help. I put one on my MS6 and the reception isn't as good as the stock antenna. That doesn't bother me, because I listen to 20-25 stations around my house. If one station is bad, I change to a better one.

not at all. See here.

First 20 cities or so are American, the bottom cities are Canadian, and there are many Canadian cities with higher crime rate than Montreal.

Correct. However, escort services are openly tolerated. Street prostitution is regularly prosecuted (both "suppliers" and customers) in order to clean the streets.

Back to the topic, when I get out of the carwash and I forget to put the antenna back, I definetly hear a big difference in reception. So like was suggested before, removing the antenna is a good diagnostic for troubleshooting FM reception

I call them dominatrix washes because your car gets whipped all over repeatedly by those so-called "soft" cloths.
