Did DCR remove the CDFP and follower? In my opinion this is 50% DCR and 50% JJ F*** UP. If they uninstalled the pump and follower they should have let you know about installing the follower before the CDFP. But you should have done some research before attempting this engine install. This is why it is worth the money to get the Factory Service Manual, could have saved you some heartaches and headaches. No offence JJ, I have been watching your build and I do admire what you are doing.

Well I can tell there are VERY few people posting in this thread that have a clue about engine building and what a long block means. The cam follower for the CDFP is closely related to say a small block chevy that also has a mechanical fuel pump that mounts to the block. The chevy requires a steel rod that rides on a camshaft lobe and pushes the fuel pump arm. This rod is NOT included in a short or long block deal. The problem here is people with NO experience in real engine building are expecting someone else to tell them everything they should know about the job. This expectation is ludicrous. IMO the only person at fault in this deal, as I have read it described in this thread, is the OP who thinks someone else owes him their knowledge of engine assembly. If DCR does ANYTHING on their own nickel on this problem, then they are going above and beyond any business standard for engine building. If the OP bought a complete running engine and the follower was missing there would be a certain liability case. As it is, the OP should chalk this one up to a learning experience and get over it. YMMV....

DCR is doing something on their own dime. I guess there are still good people left in this world. Most others seem to just hate, but whatever.....

You have to send the engine to us to retain further warranty. If time is not on your side...then it may complicate the end result of being done right. I will cover this teardown and reassembly this time even though its no fault on DCR outside of making sure our customers use coomon judgement in refering to a service manual before attempting a basic install. I can not cover any charge for shipping or your shops R&R. I am really going out here to help out and only am doing so due to the nature of who I am and to make sure you are covered down the road. If this was a basic engine I would say let them do it. This is not the case here and they will be lost and confused going in there without a clue to a 500+hp built engine and its involved clearances and components.[/b]

Yep, it sounds as if DCR will step up and go beyond their responsibility and cover the great majority of the problem. It sure speaks well for DCR, but I wouldn't expect them to cover further issues from clearly customer(?) errors. The OP is very fortunate... this time. :drive:

i'd say its partially DCR's bad for not telling him (or so JJ says...), but ultimately his fault for not inspecting it and consequently installing the pump wrong. you don't inspect things before you put them together?

i'd be surprised if DCR stays in the mazda community any longer. the guy that brought them in, telling them about the money that can be made, has left. that should tell you something. and now you have a dude that can't install a fuel pump getting everyone on the forum to side with him, and we havn't even heard DCR's story yet. it isn't worth building motors and shipping them out to people that are clueless. the only way i'd stay in this community is if i did EVERYTHING, from pulling the motor to installing the build one... otherwise you have to put up with this crap.[/b]

Kind of a shitty attitude there dont you think Cameron? I bet if you were to build a Ford DI motor, im sure you would fuck something up in the process too. DCR is new to the Mazda platform and made a boo boo. Its the same boo boo that Mazda dealers have been making on r/r engine swaps as well. Both sides are guilty and DCR is actually in the clear here because they didnt install the longblock, but stepped up anyhow. Sad thing, is to see you bashing Randy in the midst of all of this too.

wish i got donations if i screw something up[/b]
No fucking shit.
Hate to be bitter, but it's ridiculous.

How many dopes have payed into jjs pockets?
There's people can't afford a holiday meal this Christmas, and folks are willing to buy a new motor for a fuck up. Wow.

Who wants to buy my clutch? Step right up.

I didnt ask for the donation thread to be made guys. a few members suggested it and then Lenny made the thread. If you dont think i deserve it, then dont donate its simple as that. Nobody is holding a gun to these peoples head to make them donate to help a fellow forum member out. They chose to do this. Do I feel i deserve it? I dont know, im nothing special. Why people felt the need to help me out i have no idea. I dont think its wrong of me to accept their donations unless it was given under false pretense, which it is not. I can say i am extremely grateful though and will do my best to pay it forward.

Also i still may stick with a local machine shop. Shipping the engine there and back twice eats up $600+ and 2 weeks. If i got somewhere local its just $400-550ish and a few days. From the sounds of it Darrell, and a few other qualified people i have spoken to think its a simple matter of dissembling the engine, cleaning it , and putting it back together. Of course we wont know for sure until its taken apart
I just need to get the engine spec sheet from DCR with all the clearances on it. Ive been told i should have gotten one when i first got the engine. Anyways i have until like Monday before the engine is out to make a decision.

The shop taking out and installing the engine is charging me 14 hours @ 85$/hr. So thats like ~1200 plus the hour and 1/2 they have spent on it already.

Hopefully everything turns out well.

I know that. This is a web forum. Opinions get expressed.

I'm not even trying to be insulting or offensive. It's just the way it is.

I think it's horse shit. And I think it's ridiculous for you to even accept handouts for it.

But, I'm not going to tell somebody what to do with their money. I'm not the US government.

JJ's motor stands for more than just "jj's motor".

It, by far, has the most amount of "breather mods" done to it. DCR went to town on the head, bigger TB, fully ported IM, good turbo and mani setup. Alot of work as gone into.

It will surely define the max potential available to our platform at this time. Tuned by Christian, built by Darrell. Wtf, it's gonna be rad.

For this reason only, it was worth me pitching a couple bucks to make sure it gets finished right. And i guess alot of other people felt the same way.

JJ knows he fucked up. And if he had fucked up on a run-of-the-mill build, i seriously doubt anyone would have pitched more than a $.02 bashing on the forums.

But instead he fucked up an amazing build that will hopefully set the new standard for power.

Call me crazy i guess, but seems like this is the difference between a hobbyist and an enthusiast. I want to see MS6 beast.

JJ I think you should reconsider what your going to do man......I rteally do. You now have the funds to ship the car to DCR, Darrell said he would do the tear down for free and I'm sure if not free the the removal and reinstall would be greatly discounted as I'm sure he would like to make sure its running right this time. Also something to consider is the fact that if someone else tears it down and cleans it up and does the rebuild I'm pretty sure you can kiss whatever warranty there is goodbye, I also believed he said pretty much that in the email he sent you. You now have the funds so make sure its done right....,plus if you drive it back it would make one hell of a good break in drive.

For those that are bashing on JJ, saying it's his fault, look into his first post where he is CLEARLY asking if he should blame DCR. He isn't saying that he should or even giving reasons that he should... The whole money thing, I'm not too sure of but if it does help the community get more power, then I don't think they'll complain because it's an investment on information to me. I'd definitely consider sending it to DCR as well. It's shitty that you're probably tapped out on money, but it may bite you in the ass if done wrong and cost you more in the end. Find a way to get you a $1k civic that gets you from A to B until the Mazda is done man. I got rid of mine because I'll be in a situation where I don't have the luxury of being home if shit breaks.

If folks are donating to help him get it fixed, he must ship it back. I think if JJ does not ship it back to DCR he loses all credibility.

Not only did you spell 'opinion' wrong, but you spelled it wrong 3 times, and in 2 different ways!

'Stating' is also wrong haha.
