My 2016 Mazda 6 Sport has a leak coming from the transmission pan. It was pointed out to me a week ago by a body shop that I was getting a quote from on some work as well as some bad vibration/wobble from the front left wheel after a brake job.

Brought it to Mazda today and dropped it off. After a few hours they called to say it's in-fact leaking and the fluid was overfilled when they checked. The fluid was a reddish color which they said is wrong as it's supposed to be blue (thought it was supposed to be pink...). They want $840 to flush and re-seal the trans pan.

The only trans service done previously was done by the dealership that I purchased it from around 30k miles. My car just past 110k miles 2 days ago. They also said they can't diagnose the wobble/vibration until fixing the trans leak and have to wait 5 days for bolts as the bolts need to be replaced after dropping the pan.

I feel like I'm getting hosed on this. $840 for a flush and some bolts is outrageous. Has anyone had the same with their 3rd gen? The tech wouldn't answer if the work comes with any sort of warranty and was dodging any other questions I had around the vibration/wobble from the front wheel.

Not to mention my car was at the same dealership getting the oil pan re-sealed 3 weeks ago for a leak..

I believe the fluid is blue.
The wobble may be something between the rotor and hub or rotor and wheel, (unless it is only when braking).
If the leak was from the pan they sealed, it was not done correctly and the fluid they replaced it with was incorrect.

I would insist they correct the error free of charge, (including your loaner for causing such an inconvience) and at the very least I would NOT give it back to them and pay for them to do the same thing again.
But that's just me.
Good Luck.

.
Yes, it's blue.

Regarding the bolts, there are certain types that are "single use only".

They had re-sealed the engine oil pan a few weeks back, not the trans oil pan. The trans fluid was drain/filled by another dealership 4 years ago and hasn't been touched since. I do have a free loaner CX-5 as they said it will be 5 days before they can get new trans pan bolts in...

After resealing the trans pan they are saying it needs to be flushed which is a separate service due to only getting out about 3.5qt from dropping the pan. I am thinking to have them NOT flush it, and instead just top it off so it would be a mix of half new and half old ATF-FZ. I'm concerned the flush will cause more problems than fixing. (Would love feedback on this part especially. I have been reading the 400 page disassembly/repair/assembly manual on the transmission for a collectives 8 hours and my head is spinning).

There is no way to get all the fluid out by draining it, and mixing types is a very, very bad idea. If the wrong fluid is in there then a flush, even though it might cause trouble, is really the only option.

The service manager is pretty firm on that it's not the right fluid due to its red color and said it looks clean enough to be new fluid. Unsure who would have flushed my trans without my knowledge at some point in time.

The flush is an extra $259.99 plus tax. I've got a few days to think about it though and do more research

I understand now.
I personally feel that the long term consequence of of incorrect fluid is a fairly known quantity. The problems that may arise from a fluid flush is a possibility. In light of this I would personally opt for the gamble of removing all the incorrect fluid and replacing it with the correct specification. Thousands of people have transmission flushed without issue.
If I could make one suggestion it would be to have it forward flushed. I would be clear about this (in writing if necessary).
Anyhow, I am confident all will be fine. Definitely not worth laying in bed awake worrying about it.
Good luck.

I appreciate the response and the insight! I was contacted today with the ETA being pushed out from 5 days to 7-8 days so I have time to decide thankfully.

My skepticism is more in their capability rather than it being done. Along with the additional days being added to the ETA, I finally was told that they can't take my wheels off and would need my lug key. It took 2 days and asking 4 times to get an answer after being told they drove it a few times and verified that there are no issues with the front left suspension/steering/hub that would cause the wobble/vibration that's been getting worse.

Do you have another option for service?

Not one that is through Mazda without it being driven/towed a couple hours away. I have considered doing it myself to get it over with but I only have the 1 car so the loaner from Mazda is fairly important unfortunately.

I received an automated email from the dealership earlier this morning with an offer to refund the engine oil pan reseal and offer above KBB if I trade it in for another car. They have a couple turbo'd 2018 6s with less than 50k on them so it's been tempting..
