I have black 6s and for some reason the drivers side molding is a bit uneven with the passenger molding. I was thinking about taking it all off altogether. Wondering if anyone has done that or would it even look good?

plenty of people have.. it will look great ( just go look a pics of the speed6 they dont come with the molding).

to my knowledge they are just held on by double stick tape. however you need to be aware that the paint under the moulding may be a different shade because its not faded.

Seriously thought.... IT COULD BE A DIFFERENT SHADE! take into account how many years/days your car has sat out in the sunlight. seriously it'd be embarrassing if your car had a tan line.

I took off my moldings and I had no tan line. Considering I live in Las Vegas and in 100+ degree weather and I had no tan lines you probably won't. If any of your doors were repainted because of a replacement, then I'd be worried.

Just peel a little bit of it off on each door and check under it. If the paint looks like it's still there go for it.

i removed mine. they peeled right off. for about a week after i did it, there was a slight line left. but once i washed it, and put a coat of wax on it, you couldnt even find where it was originally. and was def worth the work. now i cringe every time i see a 6 with them. lol

Mine is a 04. I don't have a garage either so it just sits in the sun all day lol

Same story here on every point, except I ran a piece of string behind mine to remove them. Mine is an 04 and I removed mine in I think 07. I have a garage but it sits outside at work all day.

i have a garage, but my turbo cars get that luxury. lol. the 6 always sits outside, cept in the winter when it goes into storage.

as long as you know how to wax, dont worry about a line being left. even the worst lines go away after a few coats of wax. the only thing to worry about, is if you know your car has been repainted. cause if it was a 1/2 assed paint job, they probably didnt pull the moldings off. which would leave a paint line behind. and no wax is gonna fix that.

I took the side moldings off my car. 3 doors came out perfectly, but the last door looked like something happened to the clearcoat, and a ridge-type outline of the molding could be seen..i wasn't impressed. So i took some 2000 grit sandpaper and lightly sanded around the line..bad mistake..now i can see the buff mark because waxing it didn't get rid of the line like i was hoping.

Now I have to get it fixed properly...me and body work don't mix..lol

its ok tho, because i have a few other dings and scratches that need to be taken care of, so i'm gonna do it all at the same time. hopefully before september ends..

I have a black 04 and I removed mine in Jan 2010 using a hair dryer, fishing line and then goo gone to clean up the residue. No paint fade and no discoloration. Mine has been parked out in NYC streets 24/7.

After 2 wash/wax sessions, I no longer noticed any outlines or mark on the sides. Don't freak out if you still see the ghosted marks after removal and/or wash - they will eventually go away, just wash/wax a few more times.

I think so long as your doors weren't repainted then its extremely unlikely you will notice paint fade.

And yes - the car looks MUCH better without them. Its really simple and can be done in less then 20 minutes. Wait for a hot day and use a hair dryer along the molding as you pull to loosen and melt the adhesive.

Keep in mind though - that I don't think it's very easy to put them back on once you remove them. The moldings tend to shrivel up and get all deformed looking.
