Despite my board name I have an 06 Mazda6s Hatchback and this past weekend I did the Airbox mod. Basically removed that flapper on the right and whatever that thing was at the very bottom. Some sort of baffle in the very bottom of the air box. Below the airbox itself (removed) there was another box that the airbox plugged into. I remove that thing as well. How the heck did this car ever breath??

Well now you can definitely hear the intake when you drive along and I was just wanting to check something here.

Does this mod in anyway hurt performance because when I give it some gas I can hear the intake open up and almost sounds like a 4 banger under load. I'm wondering if its just the sound now is giving me the impression it's bogging and not going. Were as before it never made that sound and I'd just continue to put my foot on the gas and go.

HOpe that makes sense. Thanks!

I also have a 2006 Mazda 6 V6 Wagon. I did not remove the flapper thing. That is hooked up to vaccuum and a solenoid switch. I did remove the bottom plate. The other box that the air box plugs into which is mounted with 3 nuts under the fender is the silencer. I would put that back in, but drill a half a dozen 1/2" air holes in it first at the most bottom part so when it's mounted it gets at the cold air! This will quiet it down enough and definitely give you good flow and colder air.

Gotcha okay so basically put it back to stock for the most part except drill a bunch of holes on the very bottom of the silencer so it can pull in some cold air and likely not groan so much when on the gas..

How about that little plastic piece that was sitting at the very bottom inside the air box? Leave that off or put that back on? There as also that snorkel looking piece too.

Thanks!
