Okay, I will start with I know this thread has been done before, but im starting a new one so it will take someone less than ten minutes to know what to do.

I went to the car wash today, and I was in kind of a rush and just did the automatic one. Not the automatic one with the belt thing where you go into neutral and it takes you through. I went in the one where you pull in your own car into it and it blows water at the car at high pressure. I was not even thinking of my intake. I have a AEM CAI and it got drenched. I had to drive from Idaho to Utah for a funeral, and the car was still running like a champ until I hit the onramp and a civic wanted to race. Well, needless to say then I hit about 6 grand my car started chugging, it sent my traction control on and my gears were shifting all over the place. (I have a automatic with sprot mode). I pulled over and could not figure out what it was. When I got out of my car, it sounded like it was miss firing, or not getting enough fuel, or running WAY lean. I knew I did not drive through a puddle so it was not hydro locking. When I go on road trips I wrap part of the car in cellophane or saran wrap to protect it from chips. I thought it was a good idea until now, because I thought it was that cutting off the air to the intake. So, I pulled it off and it sounded like it was running a lot better. (I have a racing beat exhaust so I can hear it). I just took it WAY easy and made it to Utah with no problems. I still thought it was the Saran Wrap, and when I got back I went and washed my car again. Once again I was short on time and like an idiot hit up the automatic wash. I went to get my wife and as I was pulling out, it choked up again, and jumped gears (I think it was just going to its saftey gear 3rd). Well this time when I got out of my car I popped the hood and I have a seibon Carbon Fiber hood and I thought maybe it leaked water down and got on my CAI. I touched the filter, and it was soaking wet. I dried it out the best I could before I had to leave again, and while driving I threw my first CEL. That right the DAMN CEL turned on. Knowing why it was on I just went to my destination and pulled the battery off. Put it back on and well, it runs like a champ!!! Moral of the story be careful because when the CAI filter is wet and you rhomp on the accelerator with the 6 it will chug out. The 6 CAI well at least the AEM brand needs a hydroshield or dryflow shield. I dont know if it needs a splash guard, but if needs something to protect it. An extra 30-40 dollars could save you a few thousand on an engine replacement. Also, dont cover the vented guard by the wheel for a CAI, that lets in crucial cold air for the intake. Today my car funs just fine when I gun it it goes through the gears just fine. I will never EVER take it to the automatic wash EVER again. I cant wash my car by hand cause I and a college student and dont have a place to do it. I freakin love the 6's and almost cried when I thought I killed my engine.

Why did I write this? Because I wanted to tell people one the AEM intake does not throw codes if installed correct at least for the 06-08 2.3L models. Another reason I wrote this is to warn people about the issue and so they can find it FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!! If this hsppens just let it dry or dont drive it hard. The worst thing oyu can do is GUN it to 6000RPM. That will kill it and more seriously since the engine is not getting enough AIR IT COULD BLOW IT. I have heard of piston rods being bent, and in the shop seen freakin dumbass people come in with engine's ruined cause they sucked in water. (usually civics... figure that) Well there you have it. PEACE!!!!

That's very odd that it did that to you. I always use those automatic washes and the ones with the belt and i've never experienced that issue with my car. Also, i've reved to 7500 (I have a raised red rev limit) after a wash and all seemed well.

holy shit, break up your stories from one HUGE paragraph!

anyhow, the issue is usually some water get on the MAF, as soon as it dries/leaves you are good again. i hose off my engine in a quarter wash and spray directly onto the filter and never had an issue. it was more of random luck, not a never do it again thing.

and i've seen CAI's installed correctly on the '06-08 cause CEL's....it's MUCH less often then us early years, but it can still happen.

Sorry about the paragraph, I was watching a movie while I typed it. But I have not hewar of too many problems when the CAI is the only thing changed. I have heard of CEL's being thrown then they have headers and a CAI on the 4 cylinder. The V6 has more issues with the CEL.
