Goooogle!

The first gen is a 2.3L and the second gen is a 2.5L, how would the smaller engine be more powerful?

2.3-160
2.5-170

Lol 1.6 liters iirc, but the rotary engine is completely different than the internal combustion engine and displacement is not as important with a rotary, which is one of the great things they have going for them, they can be so small and light and that allows the bay to be smaller and the car less heavy at the front end, and ultimately being able to be balanced 50/50 front to rear making it a true drivers car....so nimble and tight.

It all depends on how they are cared for and serviced, but many people do not know how to correctly care for them and constantly monitor the oil level, and thus engine reliability and longevity would this go way down when people do not know how to properly care for the engine. They are a lot of maintainence and nowhere near as easy to care for than a regular engine, especially for the average car driver and not the enthusiast.

Plus it is very hard to find mechanics who know how to properly care for and service a rotary car, thus adding to the issue and stigma.

Well my cousins car was purchased from brand new and maintained at mazda everytime and yet the engine still died out at 138k kms.
And my friends brother rebuilds JDM car engines (purchases car with broken egine and rebuilds the engine) and 50% of the cars he buys are rx-8s at 150kms.
I love the look of the car but the engine kinda scared me off

Well not all engines are the same and you can't generalize one type due to one or two people's experiences, but I know what you mean there.

Rx's require high maintainence and they eat a shit load of oil so if your not aware of that and on top of it, kiss your special performance/racing engine goodbye. It is not the regular internal combustion engine and requires added maintainence and monitoring, and without knowing this you engine is predestined to a doomed short life. And I'm willing to bet that the majority of consumers are not well enough educated about the car and engine to know it requires special care, which almost certainly contributes to the early demise of countless engines.

I suppose this is true also
Most people see a pretty car with a tiny engine and lots of power and tada, recipe for disaster
Gas consumtion is still pretty high even though the engine is small, at least that's what my cousin told me

But hey back to topic lol
I remember seeing a second gen dyno test and it came out at 159hp? Is that possible?

170hp at the crank. Dynos measure power to the wheels. 159whp. there is about a 15% loss from the crank to the wheels.

Yes sir. Stock whp ive seen high 130's to low 140's. Which isnt bad for a 4 banger

Ive always wondered why when ive seen the dyno's why the hp is so much lower than what it states it is supposed to be.
Is there any specific reason as to why the whp is lower than what it states on wikipedia for just the hp ive never understood that?
(im sorry if i make no sense right now im kinda drinking, i just got off work so im not a bad person for drinking at 6:30 in the morning lmao)

lol..been there done that. The reason is because it takes HP to move the car, parts etc. from the crank to the wheels. So 170 hp at the crank would lose any where from 15-20% to the whp. 170-15%= n144.5whp or 170-20%=136hp. Basically 170hp at the crank will produce 136whp - 144.5whp. This is just an estimate. All Motors are different.

Well it was 530am and he said he was drinking lol.

Also 159whp is not 15% from 170. I 159whp is not stock numbers, dont want people to think they get that much stock.

Lol yes thank you, i just woke up actually. But thank you for answering my question even though itd already been answered!
