Hey everyone, Mazda6Club newbie here.

Just got myself a ‘18 Mazda 6 GT Reserve 2.5T in Snowflake White Pearl and I haven’t been this giddy about a car in a long time! I feel like I’m 16 all over again fresh with a drivers license and a new (used) ‘88 BMW 325is.

To explain the title though, I sold my 2016 Charger Scatpack and was originally in the market for a ‘19 Mazda CX-5 AWD 2.5T. It was time for me to ditch the machismo and get myself in a grown up car. Well, I didn’t like any of the deals I was getting so I ended up “settling” for a 6 instead. After 6 days of driving this thing, I’m glad I made that decision.

My entire life the majority of the cars that I’ve had were RWD, minus a couple Hondas I had sprinkled in my car history ( ‘88 325is, ‘99 Prelude, ‘06 Fit, ‘06 350z, ‘11 Infiniti M37, ‘00 Miata - which I still have :grin2:, ‘16 Charger), that said I’ve always been a RWD fan and wouldn’t even think of giving FWD cars any time of day. Yes, I was overtly biased towards FWD and would cringe at the thought of its so called “limitations” on a true driving experience.

Speaking of driving experience, I definitely had a short lived romance with the Charger. Yes, the V8 sounded like sex. The 485 ponies were awesome. And yes, the ECO mode helped bring the paltry 15 MPG up to 26 MPG on road trips. But holy crap, I felt like I was driving a big arse couch. So much so that I found myself driving my Miata way more than I drove the Charger. I was smiling more in my Miata than in the Charger, which made me realize that balanced handling had more of a place in my heart than raw power.

Anyhow, to conclude my introduction to this forum, I just want to say that the 6’s handling is amazing. It has restored my faith in FWD cars for sure. Yes you can get the occasional torque steer, but there’s more to the driving experience than flooring it from a dead stop. An added bonus for me is that this is my FIRST ever turbo car, I’ve always wanted one, and albeit there is no turbo lag per se on the Sky Activ X 2.5 T, the dynamics are different for me coming from an all naturally aspirated background. I’m having fun, for sure >:)

6 days in and I’ve already done the following:
  • Windows Tinted 15% front and 5% everywhere else
  • Muffler delete (cat and resonator stayed on)
  • Corksport SRI (should be arriving tomorrow, cant wait to hear my turbo)

I also plan to do a chrome delete via plasti dipping, and perhaps a mild drop...I’ll be sure to share pictures once I do so. Ahhhh, I told myself that I was going to keep the 6 stock and was going to continue modding the Miata instead...but I guess once car crazy, always car crazy?

Looking forward to participating in this awesome forum. Cheers everyone.

Hey Welcome to the Club!

I feel you based on how the Charger drove, my wife had a 2015 Challenger R/T prior to swapping for a 2016 Mazda CX-5, & yes they sound damn sexy with the right exhaust & we would get great gas mileage (For a V8) on long road trips but damn dude they are literally straight line cars only! Trust me you'll save a lot on your monthly gas bill, Insurance & cost of Mnx overall!

Welcome to the forum!

Congrats on your purchase, you picked the best color ;)

Also, when it comes to the handling of these cars: Welcome to the world of Mazda - I don't care much for straight lines, and neither do they.

Thank you sir! I was really leaning towards Machine Grey Metallic as the majority of my cars have been pearl white....but here I am again!

BTW - I saw your photoshop wheel thread and that's awesome of you to help us all out! I'm still going through all the pages, but I was eventually going to post and request for a 2018 SWP with the stock 19 grand touring reserve wheels photoshopped black and lowered 1 inch. Any chance you've done this already? Thanks in advance!

Congrats and welcome aboard.

Handling mind blown now? Check out the easy and relatively inexpensive suspension mods in my build thread. Mind blown all over again how even more amazing the car handles.
Nice! Checked out the first couple pages and you definitely delivered. Will be perusing the entire thread for some suspension inspiration. I won't be doing any engine mods anytime soon, so after cosmetic upgrades, suspension is definitely my next target. Thanks for sharing your build with the community!

Would you also like to see the windows tinted a certain percent and what view of the car would you like; front, driver, passenger or rear :welcome9:

15% front windows, 5% everywhere else. Passenger and Driver side view would do. I REALLY appreciate!! Thanks

Eh, nothing special in terms of quality photoshops, but if it helps people then I'm happy to do it.

You can find the entire album link on the original post of the thread. It points here: https://imgur.com/a/jUlWg

I've taken the time to write out all the rim styles under the images, so you can do a Ctrl + F on the page to search for the one you're looking for. I can say ahead of time that I've not done the brand new GT Reserve rims on any of the cars.

Speaking of the 2018s, I need to update my photoshop file to include the new features.

I know exactly what you mean about the charger. I had a 09 challenger SRT with the 6.1 a little more than a year ago(traded in for another monster, but one that can devour corners as well as it can straights, but thats a whole other story XD) and i had tracked the car, stock suspension and its almost embarassing when you have 4x the power of a miata and they can smoke your lap times on a small tight track(streets of willow springs). Anyway, i also just traded in my daily, a '14 mazda 3 sGT for a 6 signature. I LOVE the new car. Its been a while since i've needed to go somewhere and decided that i'd rather take the mazda, but that's where I am now. I'll probably be adding the SRI in not too long as i really want to hear some sweet turbo wooshes. Can't wait to get it broken in!
