Another 3.7L engine failure here. Before New Years, at 120,000 miles, my Mazda died in the middle of a three-lane road. A semi-truck almost rear-ended me. The dealer at 114,000 miles during scheduled service noticed coolant in the oil. They claimed the motor was fine and about $3900 later with a new water pump and timing chain... 6000 miles in an internal bearing failure. Car was meticulously maintained at the dealer.

Ouch. My water pump in my 2012 failed at 130k. Had a little coolant in oil but not much. I was quoted 4500 so I ended up doing chains and pump myself in my garage for 700 (and about 40 hours of labor). I'm hoping my bearing weren't toasted like yours...time will tell.

I hope everything works out for you… I decided to give my Mazda a resurrection. Dealer quoted me $13,000 for a new engine. I got them down to $10,000 for a new one with a 1 year or 12,000-mile warranty. The used and new car market sucks, and I did extensive searching on Facebook marketplace. I decided this was the most cost effective, plus I love the car.
