Octane doesnt equal MPG in any stretch of the imagination. On the turbo, your manual should tell you the difference between 87 and 93.

I agree. For some reason the 'salesman' stated the I would get better mpg using the lower octane but the manual does say to use high octane for the turbo.
Thanks for the reply.

You dont get better mpg, youll lose about 20hp, any mpg you gain is from driving less in the boost.

Thank you for your reply. I was thinking that using less turbo increases mpg but I wanted to be sure since this is my first turbo. The other Mazda6's that I have owned have been the Grand Touring. Great and perfect response to my question.... again, thank you

FYI, according to Mazda, the turbo makes 227 hp and 310 lb-ft on regular gas, and 250 hp and 320 lb-ft on premium. Previous to '21, there was only a hp difference, but apparently Mazda tweaked the computers for the 6's Swan Song.

I will say that with my 2018 Reserve, I do notice a difference (although slight, it's there) using premium, so I stuck with it, price difference be damned...

And no, there was really no difference in fuel economy. The bigger difference you'll see is if you stay out of the turbo, but I've never had any success with that...

Sounds like an opportunity for you to do some research and report back to the group.
I was actually thinking the same thing as well. I have such an uncanny thirst for knowledge. I am still at 1/2 a tank of premium so I'll let it get abut a 1/4 of a tank, use low grade and see if there is much of a difference. i will definitely get back to the group this one. :)

You may be better off doing 2 or 3 tanks of each in a row running it below 1/4 tank to insure you have a clean test.

Oh, theres a difference in power. I had a turbo for a month as a loaner. Ironically, after reading something @WoodinvilleDan said in his super charger thread, i switched to 93 in my 3 and after 3 tanks there is a BIG difference in how it drives. The ECU in these cars is a much better learner than in the past and the 2.5l is an effing amazing motor.

I also have a '21 turbo. Staying out of the turbo is the way to go to save $$ on fuel. Around town is where most driving is, at least for me and so turbo isn't really "required" as a result I can get about another couple of miles per gallon out of it by driving gently. It is hard to stay off the "power" but after the novelty wears off, it's pretty easy to do.
