Expensive, $33K USD and up here it's $38K CAD for a Mazda 3?
Sure, won't get as good reliability going for an Audi A4 quattro but more status and only about $7K more.
Better numbers than the 6 to 60mph and 1/4 mile due to AWD and the torsion beam rear suspension is disappointing.

Project:

1. Buy crate engine for said Mazda 3 turbo.

2. Unbolt existing engine in Mazda 6.

3. Replace with Mazda 3 turbo engine and PCM, rework exhaust..

4. Diddle the "as-built" to tell it you have a MTX.

The obvious question is whether #4 is in the PCM; it might not be, which would be a bummer...... Ditto on whether it will physically fit in the space and the mounts and gearbox will bolt up. I bet it does, however.

You could also wait for someone to wreck the Turbo 3 to get the engine from :)

Stretch it out into a wagon and give it a stick. It'll never happen, but it's fun to dream.

The torque characteristic of the engine... notably the paucity of urge at the higher revs - might make the application of a 6MT to this engine (at least in its current state of tune) not optimal.
