Another no-nonsense revoew. He liked it and I found his delivery to be pretty clear, with good detail and logical points.

I recognize this guy from automotive stuff elsewhere but not sure where. I will have to Google him.

Car and Driver has now logged in a more thorough test of the 6. Their nitpicks were reaching but valid:

No hybrid or EV model
Virtually no itemized options
Not enough 'verve' from turbo

Other official stats:
Rated MPG: 23/31, 26 combined
Tested MPG: 36 highway, 590mi range

0-60: 6.4S
50-70: 4.2S
1/4mi: 14.9S @ 97MPH
Still ranks as slowest, but they're probably still using 87 instead of 91 octane.

Holy sh!t. Who needs a hybrid when you can get 600 miles on the highway?

And... How the hell did they get 36 MPG? Going 55 on a Sunday morning at a 2% downgrade?

If I do a constant 70MPH on cruise control on a level highway I can average 37MPG. That gets me about 590MI to a tank. So it's doable in theory.

Well, I still am below 2500 miles, and I know that their engines only get better with mileage, so...

Two quotes that I'd like to highlight from C&D, especially to the Accord fanboys:

"This is our favorite mid-size sedan to drive."

And...

"Make no mistake, it’s still the most dynamic sedan in this segment."

Coming from C&D, high praise indeed! Eat it, Honda! lol

Another thing to keep in mind is that turbos are not fuel efficient as they're let on to be. The more you dip into that turbo, the worse fuel economy gets. To get the best economy, you have to resist the temptation to kick that boost in at all costs.

Yeah, I know...

But what's the fun in that?

Is it me or was that a confusingly formatted review. I did not like the way the split the review between 2017 and 2018 and in many cases moxed images across the pages. Also felt that their star ratings did not line up with the words. Overall a very lukewarm review when you read it, but still an editors choice. Savagegeese was right, Mazda can't win.

Yeah but not to be a wet noodle. They rated the accord a full 5 stars compared to 4.5 for the Mazda. Also does the car upshift even when your in manual mode?

I totally agree. It was driving me crazy when it kept switching to the 2017 when they really meant to switch to the base 4 cylinder engine (I think). But that's the issue, I'm not sure if they were reviewing the 2018 base version or using the review from last year on a 2017 to save time. It makes me question the details on everything else. They kept saying the Grand Touring was the range topper and then the next paragraph would talk about the Signature.

There is a difference in manual mode when you floor it and depress the button on the floor versus not. If you push the accelerator all the way to the floor and depress the button under the pedal, the car seems to revert to shifting to maintain maximum power, so it shifts around 5500 rpm. If you don't, it goes up to like 6100 rpm or so, I can't recall if it upshifts on its own, though.

Something I noticed today...when in manual mode with traction control off, car does NOT shift for you, no matter what. I read this in a review somewhere and it's true!

They probably wrote bigger checks...

I believe that Motorweek on PBS will be reviewing the 6 on this weekends episode, and I also think they're adding it to their long-term vehicle fleet as well.

So the schlocks at C/D decided to put a Honda Accord and a Kia Stinger in their long term fleet instead of the 6. Figures.
I know it's frustrating for us, but it's not a surprise. The Accord was the car of the year and sells like 10x the amount of the 6. I'm sure they have a lot more readers interested in that car.

With the Kia, it's a brand new hyped sports car. Again, I'm sure there are a lot of people who want to know about that vehicle.

Hopefully, one of the other reviewers (like Motorweek as Grey said) will add it to their fleet.
