Hi Everyone,

Can't lie...really starting to lose my patience with things.
Car's digital cluster is now telling me I need an oil change (warning is coming up when car is started) but it's also telling me I also have 5400 kms until my next oil change. The Mazda Connect system is saying I have 5400 kms left until service so the warning seems to be rooted in the gauge cluster.
Looks like ANOTHER trip to the dealership.

Seems the dealer didn't reset the gauge cluster "vehicle engine control unit" when they did the service. All fixed.


So just an FYI for the new 6...in addition to resetting the service in the Mazda Connect you also have to follow the procedure listed below when resetting the service interval...seems odd that the two systems don't talk to one another as you would think they would.


So you have to reset the service interval in the Mazda Connect AND reset the gauge cluster's maintenance thingy/Vehicle Engine Control Unit.

I felt that way earlier...but once I saw the info. in the manual I felt a little better...I guess this is now a public service post to let owners of the new 6 know that you have to reset TWO systems when doing an oil change...not just the Mazda Connect service interval.


Still, it seems silly that you need to reset two systems when doing it once should really be all you have to do.

I'd read up on this earlier and was confused wondering if there was indeed going to be two different resets. Thanks for the heads up and this part is taken care of. Now lets get the suspension fixed and make you whole. Too good of a car to not completely enjoy for any reason.

I wrote the dealer and gave them a heads up that they need to reset both systems when servicing new 6s...or else owners will get premature notifications that they need an oil change.

Side effect of dealer getting to know unique details of new model/features. Yes they should be learning this in training. But some were probably sleeping in class. .

Also don't think one issue constitues a lemon. But would aggravate me as well.

Hang in there mate!

As your patience wears you'll eventually explode (most likely at the dealer, or at Mazda - or both) and they'll replace that damn strut.

The dealer needs to be your advocate with Mazda. "Hey, this guy has been really cool about this, but I'm sure you can imagine he's pissed his brand new $35k car is having these issues. Can we please stop screwing around and replace the entire strut under warranty? We (us, the dealer, and you, Mazda) obviously believe the strut is the root of the issue. Let's quit dicking this guy around, show some initiative and quality service and replace this thing under warranty."

Are you doing the set 5k/6 month interval, or using the flexible schedule and letting the car tell you when to change the oil?

On my previous Hondas it was only what Mazda calls flexible - the maintenance minder told you when it was time to change the oil.

For my new 6, I might qualify as the severe driving as I'm in Arizona (so both dusty and hot) and I work from home full time, so my car usually drives short distances. I'm trying to determine if I really need to do oil changes at 6 months when I will only have a few thousand miles on the car, or wait until I hit 5k, or just set the car to use the flexible schedule.

If it were me. I would change it at 5K or 1 year, whichever comes first. Just be sure and use a full synthetic. I'd set it on flex just to see what it says. You can switch it at any time.

I've got mine set to flex also, and I'm curious as to when it'll tell me to change the oil, since I drive about 16K miles per year, and they aren't exactly "easy" miles either...

If you live where the temps stay below 90 degrees, you should be able to go 4-5k on regular or blended oil. And 8-10k on full synthetic. Oil may be good longer, by best to get a new filter by then.

However if you are somewhere where temps exceed 90, I would recommend 3500 miles for regular oils and 7-8k for full synthetic.

I live in Florida and use full synthetic and change mine around 6k. May be overkill, but it is the life blood of the engine and especially when turbo is involved.

One thing about the oil.

What is (slightly) disconcerting is the car has no idea what oil you're using. So what is the algorithm set for?

Dino oil - Syn Blend - Full Syn? I'm guessing full Syn but have yet to find a definitive answer.

There is absolutely a difference of the oils longevity depending on the quality/type of the oil.

FWIW, IMO it would be in your best interest to use a full Synthetic unless you plan on simply changing the oil every 3K miles and ignore the Oil Life Monitor.

On other Forums the OLM is of great debate. I call it an OCR - Oil Change Reminder.
