Hello All,
Its been 2 months since I bought my 2016 Mazda 6. I love the car and today I the dealer upgraded my Mazda Connect to version 55. Any way to get live Traffic updates? The detailed traffic info is greyed out. The technician indicated that I have to contact TomTom for live traffic update and buy a subscription. I have updated the maps. I have looked at the TomTom site and found nothing. There were no documentation about when I purchased the vehicle. Do I need to get an iOS app to integrate?

Thank you in advance

To get live traffic (assuming it is available): from the main menu select applications, and the first option should be "HD Radio Traffic Map"

HD traffic does not cut it with turn by turn...I received the following email...dealer techs forward me to Tom Tom ...which is incorrect

Thank you for contacting Mazda Connect Support.

The navigation system was created by NavTeq, not TOM TOM and we advise you not to update your SD card in the TOM TOM site since your SD card is not TOM TOM compatible.

To update your SD card, visit
Mazda Connect.

You must download the Mazda Toolbox first and create a back-up prior to updating your SD card.

The system was originally designed with Connected Services capabilities (i.e. wifi, live traffict update). However it is not available at this time but may be provided in the future. We apologize for the inconvenience.

If you have further inquiries or concerns, contact us at 800-430-0153 Mon-Fri, from 7am-8pm CT.

Thank you,

Mazda Connect Support

Found this thread while searching for information about live traffic on nav in our new Mazda3. The 2016 Mazda6 now comes with the same nav system the 3 had for 2014-2015.

And guess what??? THERE IS NO LIVE TRAFFIC FOR YOUR NAV SYSTEM!

I just got off the phone with the MazdaConnect people and they did admit they have not been able to negotiate streaming of live traffic data from the source. Not sure who that is, and they say they are still working on it, but in the meantime that means we don't get live traffic on our nav systems.

WHY DID NO ONE TELL US THIS AT THE DEALER WHEN WE BOUGHT IT?

And no, it's no longer a Tom-Tom system for your 2016 Mazda 6, or 3 so there's no fix for it.

Can you believe this heap of crap?

Most dealer techs and salesmen are morons (no offense to anyone on this forum). Mazda used Tom Tom up until 2015 and switched to Navteq so the directions you received over email are correct. The update process is very easy.
Uh, no. The 2016 Mazda 6 now has the nav that was in the 2014-2015 Mazda 3 and it does NOT have live traffic on the map overlay.

The HD Radio regional traffic map is huge and you can't zoom in on it, and it's not part of the nav screen.

Personally, I HATE TOM TOM. I just stick to my smartphone GPS.
I hope in the near future, I can switch out my module for a much better setup.
So far, I have seen some promising units, but are not fully compatible with the guidance knob or steering wheel buttons.

I don't even know what you are disagreeing with in my statement? Your comment is completely irrelevant to my post you quoted.

Salesman need to Inform Customers

I have to agree with the why didn't they say something when we bought it. I mean if they know that then they won't be getting calls on it. I thought it was because I got the Touring model not the "Grand Touring". Glad I joined this web site. :>) Like someone else said, I know where the traffic Historically piles up. That is of no real use. I too hope they get it up and working, I suppose it will be at a premium though.

You can get historical traffic data on the Nav screen by going to Navigation Info -> Traffic -> Traffic History. You can even zoom in/out and look at other cities' historical traffic data.

Interestingly enough, there is a Current Traffic menu option that is grayed out which corroborates what MazdaConnect Support told Chris Brown, ie: They're still working on it, hopefully it will be available some time in the future.

Quick question. I thought you were supposed to see images of buildings on the map. 3D buildings. Has anyone seen those? I've been thru cities and haven't had that pop up yet. I have seen the enhanced lane exit view like TomTom shows (once). Just wondering if I set it up right or is this something else missing.

Recently bought a 2016 M6. It has the Navteq (really, NNG - whoever that is) system, with as updated SD card as the Mazda Toolbox will let me. While the live traffic checkbox is enabled (checkable), it doesn't seem to do jack. As mentioned, the historical traffic map is useless.

Extremely disappointed with the nav system. Live traffic isn't just about where there's lots of cars, it also contains data about why there are lots of cars (event, accident, emergency, etc) and about road closures.

Here are 3D buildings in Seattle on the navigation map:

Great skylinemonkey, I guess it depends on where you are. As far as Live traffic RJ it is set up to work there but doesn't work (yet). Apparently Mazda is negotiating with the Co. that does the Navigation to get it. You can find other posts about the Navigation system with more info.

I too discovered, too late, that the current crop of Mazdas (I have a 2015 Mazda3) cannot get real time traffic. One of the reasons I got the car was my experience driving a 2013 for a few months and it did have this feature. It never occurred to me when I bought it that it would be unavailable.

I called Mazda Customer Service and all they could say was if enough owners register a complaint (by calling them and demanding it be provided) then they might do something about it. It is certainly the case that this is not a "can't be done" issue. It most certainly can be done. They just don't want to do it as they change vendors for the stuff they installed and don't want to continue their business connection.

This is pretty outrageous since they advertised the vehicle had the feature.

I can use my phone for real time but then I'm either not using the quite useful nav system on-board or I'm navigating via phone instead which is more dangerous and distracting and has a much smaller screen. So I think this is not just a "missing feature" but a safety issue.

I urge anyone on this thread to contact Customer Service and demand they fix this problem.

Thanks,

< david

Maybe if we do an online petition and send that to MazdaConnect it might light a fire under their butts. I just got off the phone with them and it's the same story. They're working on it and it "might" be available in the future but they don't know when. Just got my M6 a week ago and commuting into NYC without live traffic makes the nav system completely USELESS! Even tho the TomTom in my 2014 was annoying at times it at least gave me live traffic and audible delay and detour warnings. This system does SQUAT! If I had known this last week I would have waited for Android Auto in the 2017. Anyone up for signing a petition if I get one up online?

Regarding real time traffic overlays, or rather their lack, I confirm what others have said. It does not work. The system is obviously built to support it but the data is unavailable. This is not a technical problem, it is a business problem where Mazda, in changing systems, simply failed. I am very disappointed.

Sure, I can use my phone but the display is small and that makes it distracting. I like the system on-board overall but the lack of real time traffic when re-routing could make a huge different in trip time, is a great loss.

I lodged a complaint with MazdaConnect, who handles customer service, and they said the more people that complain the more likely it will be they will put some effort into fixing it. I don't believe they are working on it at the moment. They just hope we customers will not bother them about it.

I urge everyone who wants this feature to contact customer support and make a formal complaint about the missing traffic data. As they say, it is the squeaky wheel which gets the oil. ;-)

I signed the petition. Thanks for starting it. Please add 2015 models to the title. We too don't have real traffic and it is the same basic (NavTek) system.

I have a brand new Mazda 6 (Nov 2015) with SatNav, I'm currently on the 60 day free trial of connected services and the live traffic service is a load of rubbish, you end up sitting in traffic for half an hour before it catches up and tells you there is traffic! As much use an an ashtray on a motorbike. I'm sticking with my mobile phone satnav (Waze is brilliant for traffic), a real shame having a nice built in satnav that doesn't do what it's supposed to do.
