Hello guys,

This is my first post here and first time visiting this forum. I recently decided on buying a mazda 6 . But now confused between 2015 and 2016 . As far as my research goes , i could see slight differences in the exterior and interior and nothing else apart from this .
I am looking at buying a touring , when i went around and asked around my local delaerships i found that i could get a 2015 mazda 6 touring for 22k-23k but a 2016 mazda 6 touring would come to around 27k . My question is , is it worth it to spend the extra 4-5k on 2016 model ? ?

$27K is absurd. I paid a little over $22K out the door for my 16 Touring. Are you looking into tech package? Looks like the dealership is looking for fools and trying to unload the last of their 15s. I wouldn't pay over $20K at this point for a '15 since there are so many 16s and in my opinion are much better than 15s.
Better navi - 16 uses Navteq vs TomTom on 15, and even if your car doesn't come equipped with navi, its just a $200 SD card from ebay away from being equipped..
Better interior
Better resale value, you get an extra year + midcycle refresh models always carry higher resale
And I noticed the NVH is improved on the 16s when I drove 15 and 16 back to back. Others stated they didn't notice any difference.

I think you should go drive them both and pick the one you really like, then have the dealership sharpen their pencils for a price. Where do you live?

All right thanks ! I live in California,USA and this is my first time buying a car and I am kind of new to the US just been living here since past 2 years . I am trying to do as much research as possible regarding the prices, finances and all that jazz .

Yeah 27k seems too high and yes it was including the tech package , where do you live ? and is your 2016 touring with any sort of package 22k or without it and how are you like the car so far?
27k for a 16 Touring Automatic with the bose/moonroof and tech package is a fair price. But 27k for a base model 16 Touring is insane. So it's important what options it has (and what transmission it has too). Automatic vs manual transmission is worth about $1k. Both packages combined seem to be worth about $2.5-3k.

Differences between 2015 and 2016 (I test drove 2015, but only have owned 2016, this is from memory and looking at the specs):

-Interior console redesigned cosmetically and ergonomically
-Better infotainment system
-"Sport" mode button (good for passing people and cutting people off)
-LED headlights with tech package
-Some minor cosmetic differences on the outside

You can compare yourself at:

Either of them would be a good deal. I guess logically it doesn't seem to make much sense to pay $5k for a sport mode and infotainment system (you can put LED headlights in yourself...). But I find the sport button so much fun that I'm glad I got the '16.

I started out intending to buy a 2015 and I ended up with a 2016. I thought the interior was significantly nicer, the infotainment system was better, and the car was quieter. There are plenty of incentives on the 2015, and if the difference was $5K I would probably stick with the 2015, but I managed to get the price difference down to about $2500. At that point I thought it was worth the difference.

I agree that $22-23K for a 2015 and $27K for a 2016 Touring are too high, probably by at least $2000.

Thanks for the reply ! Yes it is including the bose package , without the package it comes to around 24k . The price of 27k was on truecar.com.

Edit: All right some minor corrections , the price on truecar is 25k including the bose package . Sorry for my noobness, first time using true car.
That seems to be the typical internet price for a fully-loaded automatic Touring. You could probably negotiate your way down a little bit to getting them to knock off doc fees or throw in some all-weather floor mats or something. But there isn't a whole lot of room to move in that price.

I got mine (same thing you're looking at I think) for $26.5k after questioning the validity of the doc fee. Of course they had to write the doc fee up, so they just subtracted it from the price of the car.

I tried to go in there all hoighty toighty and negotiate down to $26k (by offering $25k first) and failed. If you do the math, it's a very tight margin they're running with already.

$25-26K sounds reasonable for '16 with tech/bose package. I know people have paid more on this site and will say that $27 is OK price, but I would push for 25K and settle for 26. Get a bunch of E-quotes from competitive dealers around and have one of them beat the lowest quote you get.

Finally heard back from the dealer , hes giving it for 24k+tax and licenses for 2016 mazda 6 with bose package. I think this would be a good deal. Will go ahead with it probably

So around $25,700 out the door figuring 7% sales tax, +/- depending on what your tax is. It's not just with bose right, you got the tech package as well? Otherwise you might want to rethink before you pull the trigger. Search through this forum, unanimous decision is that bose system sucks and not worth the extra money.

I'm sure he'll make use of the other stuff, unless he lives in Florida and never drives at night. MSRP is ~$29k so I'm surprised he was able to get it for $24k. That seems like about what you'd pay for the 15 version.

Yeah I was just trying to clarify if Bose came as part of Tech package, if yes then that's a good deal. If bose is a standalone addon on the car he's looking for then it's not worth it. I don't know the options all too well.

In the 16, it comes with heated seats, adaptive led headlights, etc. It also apparently requires the moonroof package.
Then yeah I would say it's def. a good price. Eventually just upgrade Bose speakers with something better

AFAIK, the Bose/Moonroof is one package. The Tech package is another package. I haven't seen any cars with the Tech package but not the Bose/Moonroof package, so it may be a pre-requisite.

I am underwhelmed with the performance of the Bose system. It's not bad, but it's not good either. If I could have gotten the Moonroof without Bose, I probably would have went that route.
Thanks everyone for the replies !! It is the moonroof+bose package ... I am holding off on the tech package and will probably buy the car for 24k +taxes
I've always thought Bose was overrated myself. I ended up with a 2015 model. Would have been nice to have the better NVH and LED headlamp setup of the 2016, but I personally couldn't get over the 'tablet shoved into the dash' look of the infotainment system. Prefer the in-dash look of the 2015. But that's personal preference.

I paid $24100 for my 2015 iTouring with manual. Only option was fog lights and the Snowflake White mica paint. Original MSRP was $25800

On a side note, I wonder if they simply reconfigured the headlight assembly for LED or if it's remolded? Maybe it could be modded onto a 2015? Haven't seen a 2016 up close yet.

I believe it can be modded to the non LED headlight models(2014-2015 full line up/2016 models below touting w/tech), but you will need to replace the whole front clip to do so. The LED headlight housing and chrome wing is shaped different so it won't fit with the regular bumper/grill assembly, plus you will need to mod the wiring

Thanks, that answered my question albeit in reverse. I was hoping the 2016 headlight assembly would mod into the 2015 front end. But having to replace the whole front clip to do it is kind of a pain.

Even if you gotten a 2016 you will need to buy a touring with tech or GT to actually get the new front fascia, the sport and touring without tech package is actually carryover and uses the same headlight housing as the 2014-2015 units. This is a bummer for USA manual trans buyers because you can't even order a manual with the new front end, the MT only specs up to touring without tech.
