Just looking on Mazda's site and it lists the 2007 as having 270hp. Ummm, I wonder if the 'flash' we '06'ers got is what's coming in the '07? Feel pretty lucky to have those additional 4hp, let me tell ya! ;)

I wonder if the clutch is using the same spring and, if not, if we can have ours retrofitted with the new one!

While I do not know for sure the 4hp loss was probably from different standards for measuring BHP that went into effect recently. I am sure that few if any people could tell the difference in 4hp. In fact that is well within dyno variance.

Most people here are speculating that the clutch is the same as the '06 but they were adjusted differently as per the instructions on here posted by I think Supercar Tastes - Skoda Budget.
if theres any difference in clutch can we change it ourself? or does it have to be a dealer that has to alter it?
You do it.

Search.
It's 270hp @ 5500rpm where the reflash didn't really effect... The important number is 280 ft/lbs @ 3000rpm, which hasn't changed, and since hp = tq * rpm / 5252, hp still is the same as 2006 : 160hp @ 3000rpm.
I think it's attributable to the SAE rating changes (whatever those entailed). The STi's rating dropped to 293 HP and 290 LB FT for 2007.
IMO its because ALL car companies are over-rating their vehicles... 274 hp might be possible in the speed6 at the crank.. "sometimes" but many of us know... gettin that full power 100% of the time isn't really possible...

Look at the RX8.. .they had a recall / buy back option when they first released because the listed HP was less than actual numbers people were getting... or something... i remember reading about it quite some time ago...

ANYWAY... i've yet to see 4-5 dyno pulls for a speed6 posted... 1 after another (at least all in the same day)... that got steady readings...
the SAE oversees the numbers now, they are completely verified before they can officially advertise them now. I believe all American cars are tested this way before they can sell the car. That is why there are a lot of underrated american cars.
subaru definitely took a hit by SAE standards... spec b is now listed at 243 hp and 241 tq.
