LAST UPDATE: 2012/03/26

Project is finally done!
A front lip that fit sport bumper for any 2006 2007 2008 Mazda6 with sport bumper.
This lip is an adaptation of original Mazda JDM lip that doesn't fit our bumpers, a custom hand made desing from overseas pictures.
More than 200h of work. The finishing of the prototype were done by a professional to ensure a perfect finish.
A mold were built and is ready to produce.

I would like to say Thanks a lot! to all those peoples for following me from the beginning of the process, posting your comments and helping me to design this great part. Your interest and faith into this were a big part of my motivation.

Here is pictures of the first unit coming out of the mold, on my own car, BEFORE fine adjustments & paint.

Specifications:
Part is made of high quality fiberglass, strong enough for road hazards but still flexing to follow bumper deformation.
Comes on BLACK gelcoat (kind of epoxy surface coat), production rate of 2-3 per week.
Each unit is kept in the mold for 24h to ensure they keep their shape until fully cured.
Only 3/4" lower ground clearance MAX at the sides, 1/8" MAX at center.
So you can drive without any concern even with a big suspension drop.
1.8Kg

Installation:
Highly recommended to make them fitted and installed by a good body shop.
May need minor adjustment to you car. Corner that turns into fender comes out sharp so must be sanded a bit to make them smooth.
But honestly, almost nothing to do, the mold is very good. Then primer and paint.
- 2 self taping screw #8 into fenders plastic,
- 2 M6x1.0x30mm to replace oem screws under center grille

How to get one:
280$USD + shipping (FedEx, From Canada, Terrebonne J6Y1Z5).
Send a PM with: First name, last name, email, full address for shipping, then I'll give you your exact price with shipping.
I will prompt you for full PayPal payment when your unit is in production.
You can also reach me be email: [email protected] ( Please specify your nickname and forum )
(search engine words: Mazda 6 lip, Mazda6 lip, 06 07 08 2006 2007 2008, Mazda 6 front lip, jdm bumper)

I beleive you but I still don't see what is different from our 2006+

The KS is nice too but doesn't match the smooth oem curves, a bit more aggressive than what I like, you barely notice it's an aftermarket lip added.

Looks like I'm gonna spend a month of fiberglass work to build a replica of this nice JDM...

The difference is that the Japanese and US crash standards are very different. Japan always has a different bumper than the US cars, at least nowadays with pedestrian safety standards and what not on the rise.

Now all we're saying is that it's not a direct fit. Can it be modified to fit the USDM bumper? Hell yes. Just take it to a good shop.

I personally dislike the kenstyle one quite a bit for the same reasons. The JDM factory lip compliments the bumper and gives it a more beefy look. I'm hoping that one day we'll get something like this.

It's coming soon! A custom front lip for my 2006.
I just restarted the project after a 3-months break spending more time for the family.
Those pictures are from October 2008

Building the mold:

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b272/hur...ct/IMG_0019.jpg

Results of the first layers (October 2008):

Few more fiberglass layers added now.
Working on bracing the lower edge. Few steel wires are inserted into the process to make it really strong.

Then, it's gonna be a corse surface leveling with a high strenght polymer putty.
Another layer of thin fiberglass mesh to merge everything and match car contour perfectly.
Finishing putty.
Primer & Paint

i wasnt sure if you were trying to mimick the jdm oem lip, but its suposed to look like this.

* and i reccomend getting a different grille if you are going through with this. the usdm sportsgrille covers everything up, and will not do.

hummm, I wish I found those pictures before...
They gives more details than the grey one on my first post. Yes I was inspired by the JDM lip. That's what I would buy but seems we can't import them here for a fair price. It's the origin of my project. The target was not to reproduce a copy of this one but since it's my favorite, I wanted to go with a desing near from it. It came out from the mold slightly different that what I had in mind but considering material costs and time already invested, I went foward.

Thiner center, less protrusion. Thanks a lot, it's important for me to get those external-eye comments. I agree and I'll try to play a bit with the finish to go toward this direction. From the point the project is now, it will certainly still looks more aggressive than the JDM. If the final look is far too aggressive than what I like (the main reason why I did'nt bought the KS from Croksport) I will restart another from scratch. It will be less work and be faster since I've learn some tips from my current project.

The more I look those JDM pictures, I feel it miss maybe half-inch of meat all around to perfectly match the sides ground-height.
