hey guys..

i have a 2004 mazda 6 for my daily driver... love the car... My warranty is up in 1000 miles and so i brought the car into the dealership to havea few things looked at... Can you tell me if any of you have had this issue too?

The car has an intermittent hard shift and indecision on gear selection.. Dealership said the fluid was black too.

#1 anyone have this shifting issue?

#2 what fluid do i use to flush the tranny? I have access to a t-tech machine and can do it myself.. they said something about M5 fluid?

#1 Tranny overheating, get a tranny cooler. They should've come with one, but for whatever reason they didn't.

#2 The fluid is called Mercon V

1. i get it on hot days in bad traffic even with the cooler installed. and randomly when i just happen to confuse the TCM by letting off the gas and getting back on it again when it's just about to change gears.

2. same answer as above. you need to keep a watchful eye on the tranny fluid. i got my flush in march of last year and it already lost its bright red color but not quite brown yet.

thanks for the help guys.... the did the most recent "reflash" to my ECM... i am doing a tranny flush tomorrow with synthetic.

It's true that the TCM programming isn't great, but hot days combined with traffic will cause the tranny to overheat with or without a tranny cooler (though obviously worse without one) because without a fan, it will not get enough airflow.

You should look into synthetics as well. I was getting an oil change at the dealership the other day and they said my fluid will need to change soon. Im at 41k and had a flush at 20k. I have the cooler and inline filter....
