Mazdaman, I will have an early version Mazda engine for you, ready to drop in your car, without any modifications. It has low miles and will have a fresh cylinder head. PM me if you're interested. Otherwise, it's going on Ebay to the highest bidder (it should bring over $1,000 there).

This may be silly but should i buy a gasket set or what gasket should i replace or can i just use good old gasket goo.

Flipper, not sure where to post this, so for now I'm going to place it here as it has some technical details, but its also a good read about who designed what.

Duratec/MZR family history ? Mazda MPS Owners Club

A short excerpt from the post....
It was agreed many years ago, that Mazda would drop their (class leading) K-series V6, hand over the engineering to Ford and Ford would continue to develop 60 degree aluminum V6's as their Duratec V6, which Mazda would have later access to to cast, build and modify to their liking. In exchange, Mazda would be responsible for the entire development of the "new four cylinder engines". This is the deal according to Ford. Mazda would be developing a new 4 cylinder engine, regardless. Selling the K-engine out, made and saved them some money. The company has always had some of the best engineering in Japan, but sadly most of it falls short of production (including V8 and V12 engines). Ford always knew this, which is why they hooked up with the company since the 70s.

"MZR" is just a brand name, just like 'Duratec' (and EcoBoost for that matter). It means nothing. The Mazda L-engine is the engine family in question, and is all 100% Mazda engineering. The L-engine, is part of the MZR series (which is a brand name for a generation of engines, including the smaller Z-engines as well). The L-engines range in size from 1.8L to 2.5L.

Great job. I'm glad you got it done. :):) Overall, this swap really is not as hard as it would initially seem.

if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay all in all and did you do all the work by yourself?

Can a 2.0L Mazda 3 2006 engine fit into a 2.3L mazda 6 2006 and function perfectly?
Yes. As long as you swap a few things. Just like you can also swap in the even larger 2.5 MZR pretty easily just by swapping a few things from your original 2.3.

Basically any MZR no matter the size can be adapted. Just alot of times you have to swap a few things from the original motor so the ecu will read what it needs to.

Yeah, swap in a 2.5 liter instead of the garbage 2.3 that it came with. Then if you aren't happy, add a turbo.

Is the 2.5 a direct swap all the info I find is for the Ford motors and I don't want to have to change to much shit, just want to get my car on the road but if I can go with the 2.5 fairly easy id rather do that than put a 2.3 back in, thanks in advance
