yeah, i think your dealer is pulling your leg. '03-04 should be easy to swap out, but somewhere in '05/06 things started changing. I know the '06 Mazda3 version of the engine had different oil setup for feeding the VVT system as well...so the actual casting was a bit different.

Mazda did change ECU's often on the 6, but i still think we were the same for the first 2 years

No, you'll be fine. Pretty much any of the changes happened in 05 and 06 (metal valve cover to shitty plastic valve cover, coil on plug setup, etc)[/b]
I was reading your prior post regarding the "2.3L engine changes over the years" and have a question. My current engine from a 2004 Mazda 6i atx has locked-up and, I am looking for used engines. I it possible to place a 05 or 06 engine into my 04 Mazda 6 with ATX? also does it matter if the engine came from a manual car?

Physically, yes, but with the changes that happened between those years you'll be lucky if you can hook all the wiring to what it needs to go to. The obvious changes are on the surface but a simple wiring change can be an absolute nightmare for someone in your situation.

As for the last question, I personally don't know.

Changing the cam sensor won't do shit. You need to swap the intake cam shaft because it has the timing marks on it. Also, you will need to take the crankshaft pulley due to it's unique pulley design for your ECU (and you'll more than likely need to take the crank sensor off your old motor too.

Hey all, Im trying to swap engines in my 2006 Mazda 6 non turbo 2.3 liter, automatic. The motor I have to put in is out of a 2005 Mazda 6 22.3 liter but its a standard trans. Problems with this? Will I have issues with the auto vs standard trans? thanks in advance. John
