Hi, last two days on my commute to and from work there has been an issue with with a power drop after 2.5k revs, car seems to stumble and jerk. But returns to normal under 2k rev. This seems to be a bigger issue in the higher gears but might be my imagination. The engine rev's fine through the range when the cluch is in.

The commute is 13 miles each way. part motorway and part town so the engine get a good warm up. But issue seems to stay for the whole journey.

Here's the car details.
'04 Mazda 6 Diesel 2.0 121.
110k Miles.
Replace the EGR value around 1k miles ago.
No warning lights (the check engine one went off when the EGR was replaced).
Oil levels are fine and checked twice a week (not going up or down ~ excessivly).
I did notice that the coolant was a little low so that was topped up today.
Likely I need to replace the SCV as it takes a bit of commitment to get it started on a cold day (runs fine when warmed up - i.e. doesn't stall when coming off the motorway which I've heard can also be an issue with an dodgy SVC).

I've listened out to see if there are additional turbo noise, but can say I hear anything out of the ordinary (no extra whistling etc).

What would the likely issues be that I can diagnose myself before I take it to a garage? Any suggestions appreciated.

MOT Road-tax and Insurance are due in a month. So if it's going to be expensive now would be best to find out, so I can get rid.

Cheers!

Hi and welcome to the board, a couple of things i could think off that might be worth looking at, when was the fuel filter last changed? have you checked for any cracks in the intercooler pipes, they normally fail around the bottom of the intercooler or the weld, the other one worth looking at is the boost control valve, these have been know to fail so it might be worth starting with that.

Hi, did you get anywhere with this?

I have exactly the same problem, right down to your rpm range and time of year in . Mine's a '06 Mazda 6 diesel 146ps, 110k, and for ten months of the year it drives without a problem. As the weather in the Uk heads south, I'm now getting the same stuttering when trying to accelerate in 4-6th gears above 2000 rpm. It's been doing it at this time of year for the last few years.

As a matter of interest, what brand of fuel do you mostly use? I reckon that pretty much all of my 110k has been run on Tesco diesel. Might be nothing, but curious to know.

Hi, so the issue was actually the handbrake had seized on one side. Scored a nice grove in the rear brake disk.

On a separate note replacing the suction control valve (was about £110 on ebay and a very easy job) had a massive difference when starting in the cold (no stalling and starts straight away).

So, 2004 Diesel, 105K seems to be having the same issue since last week... started off with a knocking sound from the engine on low gear, and loss of acceleration exactly like the discussion above. I took it to a full service today - must admit that I'm rubbish with DIY. The garage looked at it, said that the knocking was likely from a flywheel that was loose, but needs a lot of time and effort to get that fixed. They raised the fact that there seems to be a serious oil leak (oil everywhere, as they say it), the engine light is glowing (it has been for a while, previous garages said they couldn't find what it was), the clutch pedal feels hard etc.

Like others, I'm contemplating whether I spend any more on this car, or whether its time to say goodbye... :-(
