I've had my eye on a brand new 2006 6i hatchback:

MSRP = $25,425
Invoice = $23,265
Tax = ~7%
Rebates = $3,000

I figure Invoice + TTL - Rebates is around $22,000.
What is a good deal?

Also, what happens to older model new cars that don't sell? Will this car sit on the lot until it is sold? ie will it be there in feb...mar 07, etc? Or do dealers send back factory overstocks and cars that do not sell to somewhere?

I haven't spoken to the dealer yet. I'd love to think 19k but I have a feeling the dealer would start around 21.5-22k and maybe I could haggle to 20-20.5k. I'm just trying to see how realistic my numbers are or if I'm daydreaming here.

I think I recall seeing 6i's going for 18-19k OTD, maybe even cheaper. When the Speeds are being discounted so heavily, you have a lot of leverage in getting similar discounts to the 6i.

I also got an offer on 6i 5door man trans with Bose:

Invoice $22391
Plus 7% taxes $1567.37
tag transfer $47.50
doc fees $120
minus
Mazda rebates -$3000 for 19,391

OTD price
$21,000

Should I be able to get an offer better than this? ...If so how?

The dealer offered me dealer cost - rebates = $22,755 - $3000 = $19,755

Any thoughts if this is a good deal? I would like to try for $18,500 so my OTD price is under $20k....not sure I can get that though.

since you are so late in the model year you should definitely get it cheaper.

i purchased my 04 on halloween of 2004:

2004 6i 5-door, MTX w/ leather + bose

$18.5k before ttl

i STRONGLY recommend just "stopping in" on the last day of the month. dealers are more likely to move on price if: 1) they need to make a sell to meet their monthly numbers and 2) they need to move a late model year off the lot before year's end.

good luck!

Thanks, thats just about the model/MSRP I'm looking at and I was shooting for 18.5 too. Unfortunately the dealer is about 2.5 hrs from me.
