Hey Guys and Gals,

I was wondering if I were to buy a 05 key and have it cut for my 04, will the remote work?

Yeah. You'll have to program the fob though (and program the key itself too, Which is overpriced to get done if you ask me). No clue how to do that but I am sure someone will chime in that can.
I lost me set of keys and the remote for my 6. I need a new set anyway so i figured why not.

Any one know where I can get a blank key and remote besides the dealer?

Your best bet it going to be Ebay. I have a fob if you want it thats nto being used since I have the Viper 791xv

As for the key, I'm sur eyou could find an uncut one on ebay easy, You will still need to take the key itself in to a dealer and pay to have them program the chip inside the key itself too though. As just havin git cut won't allow it to work in your car.

A guy like 3 months ago was suposed to buy it off me for $5 shipped but he must have forgot since I never recieved the money. So I'll sell it to you if ya want. same price....

if i can't get my hands on a 05 one for a good price with a uncut key, then i will go for it.
I'm not sure about an 05 key working on an 04, but at my dealer, they charge $30 for a key to be CUT, and, get this, $150 for the programming process...... However, you can program as many keys as you want at the same time.

The key fobs are a different story, as the programming process is much simpler. If you want, google something like "mazda6 key fob programming" or whatever, that's how I found it.

That is an 05 one. I have a 2005 6
The answer to the question is yes the remotes and keys are the same 03-05.You can program the remote by yourself. It's the key that you will have a problem with. The key has to be programmed with a ngis or igs or a wds type scanner.then after the programming part starts you will receive an output code, then you have to log into mazda's dealer site and have a valid password to get the input code.you can then enable the car to be able to program a 3rd key if it already has 2 programmed keys without a scanner.
heres how to reprogram the remote.

1: Remove the ignition key and close all of the doors.
2: Open the drivers side door.
3: Insert the key into the ignition switch.
4: Repeat the following three times : Turn key to ON and then back to LOCK position.
5: Key should now be in lock position. Do not remove the key.
6: Repeat the following three times : Close and then open the drivers door.
7: Drivers door should now be open and all doors will lock and then unlock. (You are now in programming mode).
8: Push any button on the transmitter twice.
9: Doors will lock and then unlock indicating that transmitter is programed.
10: Repeat steps 8 and 9 for second and third transmitters.
11: Done.

NOTE: If you only have one transmitter then program it three times. If only two transmitters then program one of them twice. The
reason is that there are three empty "slots" in the door lock module for transmitters and all three need to be filled or may not
operate correctly all of the time.

Oh, I did not know the 05 key is the same as the 04.

I want the 06 key. Can that be programmed to work on the 04?

the flip key? no. ive never heard of anyone getting that to work.
I would think that if it was cut the same way, then it would work. I think I need to try an experiment.

I need to get one and see. Does anyone for sure if the remote will work.
There is a thread where a member tried it. They was able to get the key cut correctly but it wasn't even the same type of chip in it so they could not get it programmed at all. essentialy making it a waste of alot of money lol

I'm sure if you search you can find the thread.
oh well. That sucks.

So, how much did you want for your remote again.

No. Two different types of chips in the keys.
