  1. Mazdaedit/Tatrix/Orange Virus Tuning How-To and Technical Support Discussion

    2.5L I-4
Yes the engine "tune" is loaded into the PROM part of the ECM. It doesn't get erased, if battery power is disrupted.
  2. Mazdaedit/Tatrix/Orange Virus Tuning How-To and Technical Support Discussion

So, after you re-loaded the stock programming and disconnected the battery you could get it to function normally? I'd try re-loading the OV tune, do the battery disconnect, and see if that's your work around. If so, it will be a PITA to do you tuning...but, once you're set-up, you won't be...

    Groan (and eye roll!) :wink2:
  4. Oil Filter Comparison

    Newbie Section
This says pretty much everything you need to know. Napa Gold or Wix filters are always (as of today) excellent choices. However, when in doubt, it never hurts to get the OEM. You can also find deals on Mazda filters on Amazon. (PS/OT...I use Mann filters on my VW's too. OEM filter without...

    Mazda6 (Atenza)
Traded it in on a VW GTI. My world changed and my needs changed and I just didn't need a big 4-door sedan anymore. The 6 is a great car and I have no real complaints. I just wanted something smaller and faster. Good luck and safe driving to everyone here.

That's pretty unfortunate. I guess trucks and SUV's are where the money is.

Thank you. I have considered different wheels...Enkei and BBS among others. Unfortunately, there just never seems to be the spare cash to justify such an extravagance.
  8. Peeling rims on 2016 6GT

    3rd-Gen
No. I have the silver Touring wheels. Mine are in good shape. I've thought about it. The gloss "gunmetal" gray of the GT wheels looks great.

I put in new Philips Extreme Vision headlight bulbs for the winter. IMO, they’re the best halogen bulbs out there.
  10. Brakes click when depress while in reverse only

    Suspension / Brakes
I use CRC brake clean in the red can (chlorinated) if I can find it. For grease, I use these...CRC and Permatex brake grease. You DO NOT want to use any petroleum based grease (like axle or wheel bearing grease) as this will damage the rubber brake parts. Hope this helps.
  11. Brakes click when depress while in reverse only

    Suspension / Brakes
What I do every fall is remove the pads, caliper, and slide pins. I clean everything with brake clean and a brush. Then I grease the pins, backing plates, shims, and pad edges with brake grease...be careful not to get it on the friction material. Reassemble and I’m good for the winter. I found...
  12. New Tire writeup

    Wheels / Tires
I've got Michelin PS A/S3+ on my car and like them a lot. (However, unless you can find some sort of amazing deal, they do run over your $200 per budget.) I've run Continental ExContact DWS in the past and liked them (good in snow for A/S tire, decent riding, good handling, tend to get noisy as...
  13. Peeling rims on 2016 6GT

    3rd-Gen
Its nice that Mazda replaces these peeling wheels...however, it doesn't appear to be a real long-term solution if the replacements peel too after a year or so.
  14. Real World Gas Mileage

    3rd-Gen
Yes. Most of them are...some are very optimistic. (Mazda's is one of the more accurate ones I've run across.) Most manufacturers design them to be optimistic, since most customers never bother to do the math. If your car says it's getting 38 mpg (when its really only getting 35 mpg) and you...

Through poor planning and bad time management, I ended up field tested my low fuel warning system today. The fuel warning light was on, the gauge indicated 7 miles of range remaining, and there was one bar left on the fuel tank display. (Oh, and my wife was pissed.) I ended up pumping in an...
  16. Peeling rims on 2016 6GT

    3rd-Gen
It shouldn’t be this hard. It’s paint, not rocket science. (The plain silver wheels on my touring model are holding up fine. So we know they can do it.)
  17. Rear Brake Pads

    Newbie Section
I've heard this about VW's too. Someone told me that they're engineered to bias the rear brakes at initial brake application and transition to front bias as pressure increases. The idea being that the rear brake application serves to "stabilize" the vehicle's suspension compression to reduce...
  18. Exhaust

    2.5L I-4
I've got a Racing Beat axle-back and its perfect for me. If 1 is stock and 10 is open exhaust (in terms of volume)...I'd say the RB is 3 or 4. Subtle at idle and low revs building to a nice mellow growl at WOT. Zero rattle or drone. I hear the Tanabe is even quieter. Unfortunately, no two...
  19. Real World Gas Mileage

    3rd-Gen
Yeah, do yourself a favor and just calculate miles driven divided by gallons pumped. Also, does your 2018 actually have a 16 gallon tank? My 2016 has maybe a 14 gal tank (?)...of which I’ve never put more than 12 gallons in. Ever. I generally refill when I get below a 1/4 tank and that’s...

New tires. I went with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3+ in the stock 225/45-19 size. There were almost 40,000 on the stock Dunlops. Last time I rotated them, they got real loud for some reason? I probably could have gone on to 45k on them, but winter is coming and it never hurts to have good rubber...
